Photographs and memories...

Here are some photographs I took on the 6th anniversary of my fathers passing... Just to show him that we didn't spend the whole day feeling blue... just some of it! I am currently revamping my blog as I has lost my connection with it and want to rejoin with the blogging world. Change is as good as a holiday... yes? xox

No time to chat!

So much has happened since I 'wollowed in my mud'! lol I deleted my last post as it oozed of negativity and I can't allow that. I had a lovely chat to one of my best friends and you can visit her HERE for some inspiration! I feel sooooo much better now. Has anyone else lost any of the photos on their blogs? I seem to have lost a few months of photos and have no idea why. It's going to take me hours to delete them and repost them. Blah! We took Harrison to see the Transformers movie last night and it was awesome. I had a wonderful weekend with my Mum and she has taken princess Isabella back to Warwick with her for a week. We will follow them down in about a week or so. I apparently have loads of work to do in the shop. I opened my ebay shop a little while ago and will start selling vintage wares in it this week..... right after I move my computer back inside (out of the freezing cold garage brrrr). Loads of work to do and sooooo little time! xox

Jam Packed!

It has been quite awhile......
story of my blogging life.
I haven't really been THAT busy either!
(After proof reading.. I take that back!)
.
Last wednesday we had severe flooding in most of Brisbane's suburbs.
These photos were taken from the top carpark level at the Shopping Centre at Morayfield.
There is a wetland area next to the carpark but it broke the barriers and took the shopping centre with it. The second photo is of a railway bridge that cars go under. When the water was at its highest.. it was over the railway tracks on top of the bridge.
The last photo was taken in a stair well. The water level got up to where Chris is pointing to and the water was still pretty high the next day.. as you can see. There were only a handfull of cars trapped under the water and all the ground level of the shopping centre was flooded.
.
.
Our home was safe 'this time' as the water flooded through the backyard into the street in the front quite quickly and didn't get time to rise into the patio. Chris and I went out that night in the storm and packed our own sandbags at the local SES centre. It was pitch black and there was lightning and rain.... a wee bit scary but it needed doing. We could hear the Caboolture river from where we were... it was roaring so loudly we though it was thunder at first.
Both our suburb and Caboolture were mostly under water and it was sad to see some of the damage in the days following.
.
We went to Armidale for Marty's funeral last month.
Even though it was melancholy...
it was brilliant to be with family again.
Here are some of the photos that I took.
I would have loved to get one of Chris & Rach
but by the time I thought of it.. it was too late!
.
.
My best friend Cherie has been in hospital with heart problems but we won't know the exact problem until she gets some more tests done. I couldn't get into her home to get her 'things' so the poor love had to wear my jammies and slippers etc. It was lucky (in a weird way) that her GP discovered she had high blood pressure as it let to the discovery that she has mild scoliosis which is causing her discomfort in her upper body. She is home now but in continuous pain. We went out for lunch this past friday and pretended all was well with the world.
.
Rachael bought herself a coffee shop in Moe (Latrobe Valley) and it opened today!
I haven't seen any photos yet but I'll pass them on when I get them.
I will be doing some paintings for the main wall soon and posting my progress here.
.
I have been haunting facebook since my last post and find it a great way to catch up with friends whom I don't get to see face to face. If you want to hook up with me there.... email me and I'll make it happen.
.
Isabella has started hocky training and is now playing matches.
I don't have any photos yet as I keep forgetting to buy new batteries or recharge the ones I have. She is very good with the hockey stick and we are so very proud of her.
Mum has been down to see her play and has 'hooked' Bella and Chris up with all the equipment they could possibly need. Chris starts vets hockey as soon as I get him a mouth guard... and a 'cup' lol. We must protect the jewels!!! His team is called the 'Geriatrics' lol. I am proud of him for giving it a go. That reminds me... I must download some rules and regs.
.
We had the most amazing Mothers Day weekend.
Mum came over for the whole weekend.
Harrison got man of the match and Isabella scored her first goal!
We went down to Mt Nebo and the Samson Valley and ate Napier Valley steaks.
We visited a winery and bought some peppermint green tea.
We took the long way home and stopped at a beautiful creek for coffee.
Mum and I went to some garage sales and bought some new beds for the chickens.
She bought quite alot of new stock for our shop.
We went to some op shops the next day and bought some more stock.
I have starting selling some stock on ebay to get us started.
The Warwick shop won't open until we get all the displays finished.
We won't be calling ourselves antique dealers as the license is thousands of dollars.
We will be calling our wares.... bricabrac, vintage, shabby chic etc etc.
.
I made the Mothers Day cards this year.
Here are a few phots of two of the cards I made.
Not all the photos came out I am sorry to say.
They are my own design, though I did get the curved
detail idea from a scrapbooking magazine.
I hope you like them.
.

.

There you have it... the last few weeks stuffed into one post!

I hope to hear from you all soon!

Happy 9th Birthday Isabella

~
To our darling princess.. Isabella Rose. Nine years ago today.. at 57 minutes past midnight.. we were blessed with a baby girl. We have enjoyed watching you grow up into the beautiful young lady you are today. You are a confident, charismatic, energetic 9 year old who will get all she desires out of life. There are many lessons yet for you to learn in life and Mummy, Daddy & Harrison will be right there by your side. Always remember that you can do anything you want to do in life.... you just have to get out there and do it! Nothing is impossible. Strive for what you dream to do and make it reality. Cherish your family and friends, whether they be by blood or heart, or both. Kindness and gratitude will reward you more than 1st place and winning isn't everything. Always use your heart and your head and trust your instinct. Lastly... listen to your Mother as she knows best! We adore you, our sweetheart, and love so very very much. Mummy, Daddy & Harrison xox

Somewhere over the rainbow!

I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
....and I think I owe thanks to my friends....
for urging me and pushing me!
I love my friends!
Dearly.
xox

This collage above is made up from images I 'borrowed' from all over
blogland. I have no idea where I got them from... and if you do, please feel free to say so, then others can go there for some inspiration too.
I search blogland frequently for inspiration and copy pictures to a folder for future reference. I never ever ever replicate other people's ideas for profit... EVER! Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
If any of these images are yours.... your work is awesome!
I am in a current flow of creativity.
Don't ask me how or why as I have no idea what is happening either.
All I know is that I am loving the sudden flow of positivity.
Yay Me!
I am using the above collage to create my own ideas.
I need to get my sewing machines humming again!

These two photo collages below are what I am doing today. Besides watching 'So You Think You Can Dance Australia'. Christopher recorded the show from last night as we watched CSI & CSI Miami. All the clothes you see are from op shops. I never pay more than $5 for a piece that only needs minor altering or strap repositioning. I never pay more than $2 for a piece that needs major alterations. If a piece jumps out at me and I know it is vintage and special.... then alot of thought goes into what I would pay for it before I look at the tag. All of this is... of course... for Miss (I'm turning 9 on Wednesday) Isabella Rose.

Top Left - Green strapless - Belle wants the bow removed.

Top Right - Cotton and Satin top - too big.

Bottom Right - Hot pink top - too big.

Bottom Left - 3 Sparkly LBD's - too big.

So.. three of these need minor size adjustments.

Top Right - Green sparkly gypsy skirt
- belle wants it to be turned into a short ruffle skirt.

Top Left - Black (sorry about photo) cotton skirt - Turn into a dress, with satin straps and belt. I just love the hemline.

Bottom Right - Scraps from three adult gypsy skirts. - My Aunts gave these to me and I will use them with the denim offcuts to make a couple of ruffle skirts.

Bottom Left - Two metres of each - The lavender is a light and whispy cotton, which will be turned into a dress and perhaps some pyjamas. The black & white will be turned into a dress, a winter skirt to wear with tights, and I'll keep the rest??

So.. some major alterations ahead.

This gorgeous couple is my Mum and her Beau 'Barry'.

They are sweethearts.

Awww!

Isn't she beautiful!

Yes she is!

I'm out of here... to go do lots of sewing!

Stay tuned for 9th Birthday celebration preparations.

I haven't done anything yet..... Aghhhhhh!

Love you lots, Nic xox

Firstly I want to say a heart felt Thankyou to everyone who has sent us messages, comments and emails about the recent tragedy. I have not been around to you yet.... but I will be there soon.... and hope to strike some new friendships with those I have not met yet. I am not going to write about Black Saturday anymore. No good can possibly come out of revisiting those tragic events. We all need to move forward and find our pathways again, although altered, life must be continued.

This week brings me an overpowering feeling of the 'ho hums'..... and all the uninspirational thoughts that come with the sentiment. The computer is one of my best friends at the moment and my sewing machines are desperately jealous. My art pens are staring at me with contempt. My knitting is still sitting in the many storage containers on the top shelf in my wardrobe..... knowing that anything produced now, will not make it to the season it was knitted for. I won't even mention the swear words coming front my paintboxes. I am in serious need of a kick up the bottom! In fact, the only thing I want to do right now, is go take a nanny nap. My 'To Do' list is miles long and the UFO's have been stashed somewhere so safe I can't find them... and don't even want to. Can anyone else relate to this?

Friday night AFL footy started a couple of weeks ago and hockey sign up was last weekend. Very soon, my life will be a hectic ball of sports activities and fundraising. Yay! (sarcasm)

This is soooo not the usual me. I am such a positive person with an outrageous personality. This week/month is just so wrong. I can't seem to find the off button.... or the on button! Whichever you think applies is fine by me.

I am going to go find my vitamin stash and take them with a large cup of juice. It just occurred to me that my recent anti-caffeine mission may have alot to do with my anti everything attitude.

Hang on a minute and I'll go wash my face and take those tablets........

....and I was silly enough to think it would happen straight away!

My love to you all

xox Nicole

Thankyou

The above photos were taken at callignee, September, 2008.

So many people have asked how they can help out! What can I send them? What do they need? Well, here is your chance to help out!
Our nephew Parker, lost just about everything he owns, in the recent Gippsland fires. People are donating items and buying him things out of their own pocket to help out. The generosity and kindness is outstanding and greatly appreciated. While the government has helped out to some degree.. there are bills that need to be paid immediately relating to the tragedy. We have spoken to Parker, Rachael and Dad to find out exactly what they need right now. Parker gave us the toy list lol while Rachael and Dad gave us the other list. We have taken into consideration that winter approaches extremely quickly down south and will probably take Rachael by surprise. So all season clothing is required.
If you have the means to post items straight to Victoria and are keen to help out... then here is the list of items that I have been told Parker needs.
Clothing
  • -Pyjamas.. size 9 to 10... preferably with a drawstring to keep them up.
  • -Shoes & socks.. size 2
  • -Underwear.. size 6... the Elswyk's have no bottoms
  • -Track pants, jeans or cargos etc.. size 7
  • -Shirts & jumpers.. size 10
  • -Bath robe.. size 10
  • -Slippers.. size 2
  • -Belts & caps-Rain jacket
Books suitable for a nearly 9 year old.
  • -goosebumps
  • -choose your own adventure
  • -anything to do with mystery, aliens, adventure etc
Stationery for artwork, correspondence & homework.
  • -paper-pens and pencils
  • -paint and brushes
  • -stickers and stencils
  • -glue and sticky tape
  • -fun stuff
Miscellaneous
  • -Single bed linen
  • -Bedroom decorations
  • -Photo frames
  • -Posters
Toys
  • -Matchbox... Everything
  • -Hotwheels... Everything
  • -Lego
  • -Building toys... He loves construction
  • -Science toys
  • -Space toys
Sporting goods
  • -Footballs
  • -Soccerballs
  • -Cricket gear
  • -Knee and elbow pads
  • -Helmet??? not sure about that one
  • -Tennis balls
  • -Trampoline... was ruined-Skateboard
Anything is greatly appreciated.
If there is something he is given and he already has it.... the item will be donated to other children at his school who lost their homes in the fire also. There are so many. They lost three teachers. As far as we know.. Parker is the only student to have lost a parent.
If you can help out... and you want to know where to send stuff etc... email me
through the email link and I will an address to you.
If you can't help out.... and we completely understand.... even some stickers and a funky card showing that you care.... would be awesome.
Thankyou so very much.

I have received many many comments and emails from alot of caring people over the past two weeks. I want you all to know how very thankyou I am to each and every one of you and hope that in this dark and tragic time we have united in friendship. Hopefully Rachael will open her blog again soon and you all can send her your love and light. She and Parker are constantly in our thoughts and I know that she reads my blog and what you have all written. If you have any private messages for her.. I will gladly pass them on promptly. As you could imagine... she will need all of our strength to get through this time. It will be a long struggle due to the impending court case... and this journey has only just begun.

The above and below photos were taken in 2006 at Rachaels and my joint Birthday party in January. harrison, Isabella & Parker were flushed from running around the backyard with their Daddys. Just look at those beautiful and happy kids. It was such a wonderful day. We will never forget those moments captured in time.

There will be a memorial service for all the bush fire victims in Melbourne at the Rod Laver Arena and in Brisbane at SouthBank this Sunday. This will be for anyone who wishes to pay their respects. We have been invited to attend the Brisbane event.. to place a photo and flowers.. but just the thought........

We're not sure yet if we will attend. We were thinking of going out for the day... just the four of us... and finding somewhere special to sit and think. I'm not sure if we are strong enough yet! We will have one or two funerals to attend yet... so... I'm sure no one will mind if we don't go on Sunday??!!

I'm going to go and reprogram my brain into positive thinking and start some crafting. I was suppose to go through photos.... but I can't.... maybe tomorrow!

My love to you all, Nicole xox.

Heartfelt Apologies

Heartfelt apologies for the absence of my blog and a particular post this past week. Because of annoying reporters and busy bodies who had nothing better to do... 'we' made a decision to take the post away and take my blog on a holiday. I hope you understand that the decision was not considered lightly and there were other people to consider. I wrote an email to those of you whom I felt deserved an explanation and have continued to be inundated with love and support by you. If I have missed anyone out.. forgive me and please let me know.

There is no more news that I can tell you at this moment and I ask you to keep private messages continuing through email. When the time is right, I will convey your messages, and your love will help us all to push through.

I am going to continue to post as I need to get my mind onto something positive. I am going to start crafting again today... and will use this time to think about my life and all the precious jewels it contains. Life is meant to be celebrated and shared.... among other things.... and I'm not going to waste any more time!

So, thankyou again and know that what I say to each of you, I mean from the depths of my heart and soul. I cherish you all and I'm so very grateful you are in my life.

With Love,

Nicole

I'm not sure I like this blogging everyday idea. I'm actually 1.5 hours late but oh well!
Now I have to figure out something to write about. I was going to do a big 'thing' about resollutions etc but I'm not in the mood. It's hot, I have reflux (and I don't recall eating or drinking anything with acid in it), and I'm tired! So what do I do?

How about some more photos? I'm good at that.. and it's easy.

This is me.

Redhair and freckles.

This is me on my first day of school.

Vermont South Primary School.

Prep Class 1979.

This is me at my first jazz dance concert.

This is me all dressed up to go to an under 18's disco.

This is me going to my high school formal.

.

Now I'm going to bed.

I'm going to try something really very easy.
I'm going to try blogging two days in a row.
No, I'm not kidding.
No, I'm not trying to pull your leg.
I'm really going to do it!

I had a very sick little boy last Sunday.
Harrison had a nasty bout of gastro but was feelin fine by later that night.
I woke up with a slight case of gastro on Monday morning,
having recovered later that night. It really wasn't that bad!
I woke up on Wednesday morning feeling as if I was run down
by a semi trailer full of super glue.... and it had me stuck firmly
to the toilet bowl for 12 hours straight. Not nice!
I did not have an ounce of body fluid left in me at all.
Yesterday I still felt as if a truck had run me down,
but my love affair with the toilet was well and truly over.
Today, I am a little tender, but well on the way to a full recovery.
I highly recommend the illness to anyone wanting to lose weight!
For those of you who cannot pick up the sarcasm in my my text....
I'm being sarcastic!
.

Here are some flashbacks from December 2008.
Correction made with thanks to Alice lol
.
Ummm..... Cat?

What do you want dog... I am sleeping.

Ummm..... Mums home!

I'm telling her this was your idea!

(notice the ears down... uh oh... I'm in trouble!)

That was one washing pile that had a second run through the machine!

.

This is my Isabella on New Year's Eve.

Pretty good for a mobile phone photo eh?

A very sunburnt and tired Daddy.

Here is some Christmas craftiness.

Some christmas tree stuffies to hang around the home, whether filled with lavender or cinnamon and spice. They smell divine and are not too tacky. I wasn't very happy with ribbons I had to use but I am going for the 'use what you have' senario. I love the blue one the best. I might some variations on the idea.

I honestly have'nt done that much crafting since November.

Today has been an easy day of making lists, watching some television, making lamingtons, playing hairdressers, eating, resting and generally talking it easy whilst my body is still recovering.

OMG.. The things you've missed!

Oh My Goodness!

You guys have missed out on some serious living!

Where does one start?

Sometime in November we got our hands on tickets

to 'Australia's Funniest Home Videos Grand Final' show.

Below is a photo of Shelly Craft, the host.

This is the lovely Ms Tina Arena.

This is the set of the show.
It was specially filmed at Brisbane's 'Southbank'.

My gorgeous family.
"Cheese"

What's next?

These photos were taken at 'Bribie Island'.
We live about 15 mintues drive away from the bridge to this Island.
We try to go there at least every other weekend,
for the beautiful beaches and scenery.

I think I'm getting better with my photography.

We have been so very busy these last few months

I just have'nt had time to post on my blog,

let alone pick up a paintbrush!

Christmas was lovely.

It was the very first Christmas in our own home.

Just the four of us!
We could'nt make it down to Melbourne to see the inlaws,
and my Mum had to work,
so we decided to stay put.
The chickens were given a dollar value,
and given the opportunity to choose their own gifts.
They chose very wisely... I must say!
I was very proud and very surprised by their choices.
New Years was completely opposite.
We planted our roots into a patch of ground
at the Kangaroo Point cliffs,
and there we stayed from 9am til 9pm.
They have two sets of fireworks at Brisbane...
one at 8.30pm and the other at midnight.
We decided to leave after the first set
as the chickens we getting scratchy.
Mind you.. five seconds in the car,
saw them both snoring rather loudly.
A good day was had by all!
I have heaps of photos and video footage..
but alas it will have to wait until the editing
process has been completed.
I sincerely hope that you all had a fabulous Christmas
and spectacular New Years!
May you be blessed with all that you desire for 2009.
Hold onto something people...
Cos this is my year!
I'm gonna rock this world.

Cream cheese icing....

I am just not that into you at the moment!
Blogger.. I mean..
Not you!
I have been busy doing all sorts of things and haven't even checked to see who has posted or not... which is highly unusual for me!

I have been busy.

This is a good thing of course.

.

Below is a newspaper article about our school's environment club and how they are finding ways to save water. My Belle has the maroon hat on.

It is so much fun to see the kids getting involved in saving/helping the environment. It's good karma to volunteer my time as well. I was there the day that photo was taken. One very proud Mama. Harrison was there too but we didn't want to hog the photo lol.

This is a cake carrot with cream cheese icing.

It is a birthday cake.

The decorations were fashioned out of imitation flowers into one bouquet on the top of the cake and two smaller coursages on either side. I placed two butterflies and a small bird amongst the flowers as well.

We went to the beach yesterday as got home just as the dark clouds were rolling in.

Those clouds turned into the gustiest, loudest, wettest, electrical storm we have had so far this year. I think we measured the most rainfall for the state in one half hour downpour. We were running around tying to secure everything... whilst dodging lightning. I must confess to letting out a wee scream once or twice. Very silly people indeed!

We put a blanket over our car and secured the edges with the doors. Unfortunately, the blanket acted as a wick, and there is alot of dampness on the floor and the front seats. I have fashioned a tent like structure over the car so I could air it out even in the rain. It smelt so awfully damp and icky! It's still not warm enough to dry anything out, but at least there won't be a smell!

As I was driving the chickens into school this morning, I wondered why there were only a dozen cars in the parking lot, compered to the normal 100 or so. I was met by a flustered teacher who told me the school was closed indefinitely due to damaged buildings and debri covering the entire school ground. As I was driving away... I noticed huge trees ontop of buildings and windows smashed. I am starting to realise how lucky we were last night. We had a little flood at our back door, but that is quite normal, and there was no other damage except for the car. Which I must admit was my very own ridiculous idea. Silly girl!

Sooo...... thats me for now. I have to go wash and dry some clothes whilst the skies are dry (but not blue). Very weird Queensland summer weather. I wish you all health, wealth and happiness.... until next time.

Happy Halloween!

Guess where we went last night?
I won a competition though our city’s
radio station to attend
Movie World’s Halloween Party.

~
I received a phone call on Thursday from our favourite radio station Triple M, to tell me that I was one of the major prize winners in their Halloween competition.
I was so excited that I think I did a mini scream.
The prize included a trip for four people on the ‘spooky train’ from Brisbane down to the Gold Coast after meeting the 'morning crew' and a light meal, free entry into Movie World, and another train trip home
(with as many balloons as you can carry).
Yay Me!

‘The Breakfast Crew’ from Triple M (104.5)
~
So we frocked up into costumes....

We met the 'Morning Crew'

Ate spooky food...

Got our tickets & VIP passes...

Boarded the 'Spooky Train'

(Can you see me?)

Met some new friends

(A Nepalese Princess)

Some more new friends...

Went on some rides...

Enjoyed the spooky atmosphere...

Came home with some goodies...
(not to mention all the balloons from the train)

1. Shrek The Third dvd
2. Free tickets to a comedy show
3. Signed autographs
4. Free McDonalds vouchers
5. Glow and flash toys
6. Spooky toys
7. Candy, candy & more candy

~

And slept happily ever after!
(Insert very loud childish giggle here!)

~

I should mention that in the last 2 weeks I have won movie tickets to two different movies, food vouchers, a copy of a new magazine and the Movie World prize.
So naturally we bought lotto tickets for tonight’s draw lol.

We had so much fun that our cheeks hurt from all the smiling and laughing. The fountains were tinted red, there were spiderwebs everywhere with bats and spiders, the characters were all spooked up, there were extra activities with spooky themes ie. a maze, there was a live spooky heavy metal band, and green lights and 'smoke' everywhere to make the night extra extra spooky. Not to mention that about 80% of the guests came in costume, so everywhere you looked were witches, ghosts, monsters and buzz lightyears ?????
We're still on a high!

Up, Up & Away....

Firstly.... I'd like to pay my respects to a very talented lady
by the name of Ann Wood. You can visit her HERE.
She sews and glues and creates masterpieces to say the very least.
Some of you might know of my 'hot air balloons'
and the attraction I have to them.
I have been trying to make papier mache balloons
for some years now and I believe that I finally
have the creative equation perfected (cough, splutter).
The balloon below is similar to the starting sculture
though this one is set for the scrap heap as it is too 'thick'
and I didn't 'prepare' it properly.
My balloons will have similar bases to Ann's in that they will
be papier mache but mine will be formed
over normal sized balloons and be more transparent.
I will not be having any other similarities though.
I cannot stand artist who copy
and don't use their own talents.
I came across Ann's blog awhile ago
and found it the easiest way to explain
what I have/am going to do.
Flossy paid a visit and remarked on my
hot air balloon watercolour....
which led me to reveal this post sooner rather than later.
Cos I can't keep secrets for very long.
My own secrets, not others lol.
Just email me all your secrets
and I promise I'll keep them quiet lol.

A sneak peek.
Little boxes & little girls.

"Once Upon A Time"
Last night I complete a banner/scroll for Harrison's teacher.
It measured 12 hands (lengthways) by 1 hand lol.
I didn't have a tape measure handy,
nor (obvioulsy) a camera.
This was as fancy as I was willing to get
for a classroom of 7 year olds.
Can you blame me?
The lettering below is what I used.
Sorry for the lack of photo
but you should get the idea of what I did.

I'll have proper photos of finished pieces next arty post.
I'm going to try and get more human too
and post more 'real' stuff as well as arty farty stuff.
Take care & til next time,
xox Nicole

Rain, Stash & Watercolours...

Boo
.
It's been how long?
Oh dear!
I'm terribly sorry.
I'll try harder next time.
.
The Coolum kite festival was a blast.
Besides the gloomy weather.... Hello.. we live in Sunny Queensland...
Can someone up there remember to turn on the sunshine next year please.
Two festivals in a row..... rainy, windy & gloomy weather.... Not happy!
.
We still went and enjoyed the entertainment that was rain proof.
Actually, I think there was a total of 6 drops of rain until we were packing the car, when it started to downpour. Talk about perfect timing!
.
We saw many kites, we ate lots of food, we laughed, we cried.... we had a good time.
We fashioned the sand to mould our butts and sat back and listened to music for most of the afternoon. We ate Balinese & numerous other culturally devine & tasty morsels. We drank hot chocolate and coffee with liquor shots whilst eating spanish churros (with the odd grain of sand) and licked our fingers til they shone.
.
We'll be back for more next year.

Harrison handed me an envelope last wednesday for a birthday party on the saturday of that weekend. That was nasty nice of them to give us heaps of notice!

Of course.. having made a deal with the devil to not purchase any kids birthday gifts this year.. I had to create a small masterpiece to satisfy a seven year old girl. Isabella most kindly offered to model for me. Oh my gosh... why didn't someone tell me my baby girl was getting so tall? I'm sure she was just six or four the other day! I gave her a swift telling off and told her to cut out the growth spurts and stop growing up. No money was harmed in the making of this bag. All supplies came from my stash.

Duck for huge ego!

I would dearly love to tell you that we saw said birthday girl at the local swimming pool the next day with her mother. Guess what the mother had in her hand and was putting her own purse into? My bag! My ego was pumped up good and proper. Mind you.. I have cut out another 10 bags ready for sewing up. My very own pattern of course. I did pinch the idea of the frill off a bag my S.i.l. whipped up for Belle a few years back. The flowers were an after thought.

The stamp making has had to back pedal again. We didn't go anywhere near the art & craft supplier the last week or so. I will be going next week. I will. I really will. The Australia quilt & craft expo is on this weekend but I will not be making an appearance as the last few I attended was a complete and utter let down. Yes, the bead stand was FANTASTIC but that was the only stand I spent more than a few minutes at. I can do without the loss of the entrance fee plus transport plus food & drink. My wallet is feeling poorly enough without adding those symptoms to the list.

These paintings below were whipped to start off a new section in my etsy shop. They were painted in water colour with an acrylic dusting on flat board canvas 3 mm thick. They measure 210 mm x 295 mm. They will be on sale in the dext few days.

Til next time... keep safe and well.

So much to tell you.

Wife?

Yes Husband

What is that?

What?

That?

Ohhhhhhh that!

(looking at mountain of fabric on floor)

Well?

That is fabric

(He is now staring blankly at me)

(I am choosing to remain silent)

Where did it come from?

It came from my craft room cupboard

All of it fit in your cupboard?

Yes

(He is staring at the mountain of fabric)

Did you buy this?

Not all of it... some of it...

Some of it?

Yes

Where did the rest come from?

Family and friends

How much of it did you buy?

Some of it

How much?

(Again, choosing to remain silent)

How long has this fabric collection been going?

Awhile

(He is silent again, but I thought I heard a groan)

Should I get my lawyer?

Hmmmmm

.

lol

.

Uh oh

.

So that explains what I have been doing recently.
Not entirely what I should have been doing,
but worthwhile just the same.
You see, this collection desperately needed culling.
It is filled with gastly patterns & colours
that I wouldn't use in a million years.
So I have taken away a few metres lol
and put the rest back into the containers
in a much more organised manner.
And I should mention that it is actually
quite alot smaller than I first thought.

:

Last week was a big week for Christopher.
He was set to fly out to Melbourne for the launch
of a brand new Renault 4x4 vehicle.
He was told the dress code was smart casual.
Which meant no ties or briefcases.
So we had to come up with a funky idea for him
to carry around his stuff in.
You know... magazines etc for the flight, gum,
water bottle, keys, ipod, phone.... etc etc.
Some type of manbag carry bag.
So this is what I made it.
A satchel.

Last Friday was Christopher's 39th Birthday.

This is where we went for his birthday.

It was awesome!

Happy Birthday Sweetheart.

This is where I went for his birthday.

Without him... lol

My Mum so very kindly

shared her tickets with me

and we had a blast.

This is where we hope to go tomorrow

In the Boss's car

If the rain has cleared up.

It's the annual kite festival at Coolum.

Which is about 1 hour north from here.

The festical is super fun and very bohemian.

There is fireworks, firedancers, bands, sand sculptors,

performers, food, crafts, swimming, kids activities,

sky divers, huge kites, races, prizes....

or you can sit on the beach and watch the full moon

rise over the horizon.

Start up your sunshine dances for us.

This is what I did before the hornet stung my hand.

I love these colours more than the last.

I will be selling some of it soon in my shop.

I want to try some teal, pumpkin and raspberry next.

I have some antique lace that I will be selling plain

and taking orders for required colours. Good idea?

I have not been doing much craft...

which is a real bummer...

because my hand was so sore after the hornet stung me.

It is feeling much better now though...

but I have been so busy doing other Mum stuff etc.

In future I will go back to normal blogging rules

and not promise to post, visit, sell or make anything

so I don't fail any deadlines.

.

I have put more earrings in the shop but that's all for now.

Mind you.... they are my favourites so far and nearly didn't make

it into the shop. Soooo pretty!

I was working on stamps but I didn't like the finished

product and will be ordering the proper materials

instead of cheating. lol

I wasn't really cheating, just using a type of foam, instead of vinyl.

I have about 100 designs drawn up and a few prototypes

but nothing I am willing to even give away as freebies.

Talk soon

Pirates out yonder captain!

The 'pirates' asked me to make them a pirate map.
"One with treasure on it Mummy.....
You know......
X marks the spot?"
Righty-o then me little matey's.
Ingredients:
A large piece of cardboard or paper
A set of artist pens
A cup of esspresso
A large paintbrush
A candle and matches
A huge imagination

That kept them busy for awhile.
We have been in the midst of school holidays recently, including a trip to Mum's home at Warwick in country Queensland, and assorted acitivities to keep the pirates happy and blissful.
I haven't had as much computer time as I'd hoped for but I am a Mum first after all.
I want to sincerely thank my pals who have emailed me to thank me for their earrings. Some of you have even blogged about them... which took my breath away... and replaced it with a cherishing and thankful, feelgood grin.
Thankyou thankyou thankyou.
ps. Shae, I still have yours here???
I am going against my blogging rules to say.....
I am coming to visit you all within the next 24 hours
probably whilst my pirates are sleeping
and I will be attending to my shop within the next few days
with exciting new stock
that isn't jewellery!
Ooooooooooh
So feel the love my friends
for I am eternally grateful
for each and everyone of you!
Cheers!
Nic
Update - 10:42 pm.. next day
I was bitten by a hornet yesterday on my right hand and can't finish some of the pieces I wanted to put in my shop. My hand swelled and I can't use the muscles properly as yet. Typing is a left handed affair and extremely slow. I hope it feels better tomorrow as I have some sewing to do before Christopher heads off to Melbourne on thursday for business.
I'm sure it will be fine and things will be back to normal by Friday.

Paint me a rainbow mummy....

Last week...
I hand dyed lace trims and frills.
It is soooo easy and alot of fun.
Not to mention a real time waster.
I have bags and bags of lace that I would always stare at
and try to think of different things I could use it for.
My problem was that they were in all pastel shades
and that just wasn't my kind of style.
I came across Debra Cooper and her fabulous
blog earlier this year and the rest is history.
For instructions on how to dye
your own lace and trims... go here!

Last Saturday we went up to the 'Sunshine Coast' to celebrate
a friend's 40th Birthday. We went to Caloundra....
a beach called 'Shelley Beach' so the kids could wade in the rock pools
and make sand castles. We then went to a beach called 'Kings Beach' where there are beautiful powdery white sands and a huge kids playground. We had a bbq dinner and watched the
full moon rise into the sky. The P&O cruise ship sailed north past our beach and it was so beautitul to see it all lit up. The were fireworks on a beach nearby too. So with the full moon, the cruise ship and the fireworks... I told Cherie not to expect all this for her next birthday! lol
These next photos were taken the very next day.
You can see the difference in the sands.
It looks like lolly sprinkles.

Sorry... but one has to boast about the dessert we had last night.
Pavlova with whipped cream, strawberries, kiwi fruit and passionfruit.

What is in my bag?

I made a comment to Tanya from The Purple Giraffe that I bet she didn't have as much 'stuff' in her bag as I did. This post is the result.

Exhibit A. One 'Cosgrove & Beasley' designer handbag picked up for $30 because it was 'out of season'. It was love at first sight. Don't get me wrong... I am not a 'handbag' girl. The heap of rotten banana that I usually carried around was a hand me down from Mum and had seen better years. One of the handles were hanging by a thread. Cosgrove & Beasley are an Australian designing duo and they do not have a web site as yet. Not that it really matters to me!

It is quite a large bag as bags go. It has a small zip pocket and two small open pockets on the inside. It has two generous pockets at either end. It has a medium size zip pocket at the front.

This is what I normally carry around from day to day. I took out a few items that I didn't think you needed to see.

  1. One purse with money and cards inside. There is about $1.50 in coins and no notes. There are no credit cards as we don't believe in credit. There is a drivers license, medicare card, government family card, three library cards, multiple store bonus cards, spotlight card, blood donor card & bank eftpos card. There are photos of the chickens as well.
  2. A black 'bag in a bag' for when you want an extra carry bag. I use it instead of plastic. Fabulous idea.. and have recreated it for friends.
  3. Monte Marte sketch book.
  4. Pencil case with pens, pencils, sharpener & eraser.
  5. Two hats. One for myself and a spare.
  6. One pair of sunglasses. I think they cost me $20 from a small boutique in Mooloolaba. They are scratched and in desperate need of replacing.
  7. One water bottle.
  8. One note book and pen.
  9. One very trashy and very risque romance novel.
  10. One snap bag filled with plastic cutlery, salt & sugar packets.
  11. Tissues. Both in small bags for individuals and in a pile for the front pocket.
  12. One packet of moist towellettes.
  13. One bottle of antibacterial liquid.
  14. One bottle of roll on insect repellant.
  15. One bottle of breath freshener.
  16. Two tubes of lip balm.
  17. One bottle of Red Door perfume.
  18. One bottle of eye drops cos my eyes dry out.
  19. One tube of sunscreen 30+.
  20. One bottle of skin lotion and yes it's the type for babies.
  21. One 2008 diary.
  22. One set of keys with blood donor keyring and usb.
  23. One Sony Ericson mobile phone with camera and mp3.
  24. I packet of UNO playing cards.
  25. One pair of binoculars for spotting my children.
  26. One pair of walkie talkies and it's better you don't ask.
  27. One Apple Ipod shuffle.
  28. One set of earphones/hands free ear plugs.
  29. One Canon camera which was obviously used to take the photos.

Missing from bag.... but I bet Tanya won't let me count them....

  1. One box of snaplock baggies.
  2. One packet of bubble gum.
  3. One water spray bottle.
  4. One travel hairbrush that folds into itself.
  5. One snaplock baggie with bandaids and panadol.
  6. Two girly protection items.
  7. One snaplock baggie with snacks inside.

So there you have it. I hope that is acceptable and that I haven't forgotten anything. I am now going to make my way over to Tanya's and see what she can produce. I should have bet on a box of her mangoes.... Oh well.

Tanya said.....

"I concede defeat. There is no way I can beat walkie talkies, Uno cards, and BINOCULARS!!!! There is an addendum on my blog acknowledging that I couldn't match you for baggage contents.A box of fermented, fibrous, fruit-bat sampled mangoes can be on it's way to you - just say the word :) "

Nicole said.....

Ye Gads… I will share the win with you. Are you allowed to make additions at the last minute? Is that fair? Let it be known to said ‘world’ that I have two children to run around after. The binoculars are for when we go to footy training and I want to watch my boy (the seniors running around with no shirts). The walkie talkies are for a number of reasons.. like when we go to large parks and want to stay in contact with the kids. We can see them but can’t yell at them etc etc the walkie talkies allow me to yell at them lol. Lastly I must add that I usually carry around my husbands ’stuff’ as well cos his pants fall down when he carries it… or so he says. Hmmmm

A Novel Idea!

On the 15th July earlier this year, I went with my friend Cherie up to Maleny to do book research for her novel, in the wee hours of the morning. She is writing a murder mystery novel where the main character is stalked/hunted through rainforest in the black of night. It was pitch black and what little you could see was misty and terrifyingly freaky. We visited a controlled rainforest walk up in the hills/mountain. We wore 3 layers of clothes and loaded up with our backpacks full of food, hot drinks, torches, other necessities and a change of clothes. I wore all black.. including gloves and a ski mask lol. It was hilarious!
.
Driving into the park at about 4.30 am and pulling into a carpark....
.
Cherie... It's dark
Nicole... Hmmm
Cherie... Should we lock the doors?
Nicole... Hmmm
Cherie... Alright, I won't lock them
Nicole... Lock them please
Cherie... Should we get out?
Nicole... Do you want to get out?
Cherie... Do you?
Nicole... I asked you first
Cherie... I don't want to get out
Nicole... Me neither
Cherie... Good
Nicole... Good
lol
We then decided to go for a drive to a nearby waterfall to waste some time until the sun started to lighten the sky. We got nearly all the way there when we came across a fallen tree... which of course terrified us... as we were petrified by then due to horror stories floating around our heads. We decided someone put the tree there deliberately and was going to hunt us down... therefore encouraging Cherie to drive outta there as quickly as possible.
We decided to head into town to tell the local police that the tree was across the road.. this of course being a ploy to waste more time.. so we didn't have to go back to that frightening forest. The police station was closed (duh 5.30am) so I wrote a note and stuffed it into the door...
Yes I was still wearing my ski mask and looked like a burglar.. lol.
So... we then gingering made the decision to head back to the forest
Big Sigh!
It was 6am and there was enough light to see clearly.
We puffed up our chests and entered the forest walk.
I took hundreds of photos that morning.
They range from so dark that I had to use an editing program to lighten the photo to just perfect lighting thankyou very much Mr Sunshine. I did 'tweak' the photos to give them a slight dreamy/scary look.
Here are a select few.

Someone's following me!

BOO

Did we scare you?

Thats me on the left.

It was awfully terrifying but tremendously exciting.

We are planning to do another crazy adventure soon.

Freaky Friday Freebies

You may not know that I used to work in a child care centre. I was the centre's administrator or manager. I was also a child carer. I worked in many of the rooms and gradually got to know all the children and parents quite well. There were a few times when I unfortunately had to report incidents to 'family services' when I noticed that a child was not being taken care of properly or abused in some way, shape or form. I used to have to reprimand parents for actions that their children did.... like inappropriate language or touching. I once caught a little girl with her hands down a little boys shorts. She said it was what Mummy did to the men who came to visit. Just remember.... they watch us and learn how to live life from US.

I have been extraordinarily busy these last few days.

Spring cleaning and de-germing our home.

The earrings below were created on Sunday afternoon

whilst enduring Rooster's dvd series of

'Orange County Choppers'

The first few were great... as I am quite the motorbike enthusiast... but then when we got down to the next hour and then the next...

Things got a wee bit...

I got a wee bit...

impatient, bored, snippy, cranky...

I mean to say that it was Father's Day... and the kids were outside playing with their friends whilst I was stuck.. I mean.. lovingly sharing some time with my husband. I will know better next time I agree to something like that...

Much better!

GIVEAWAY

I told you last week that I was going to have a giveaway.

Well.. start your engines and away we go....

Here are their descriptions, going clockwise, starting from the top left.

  1. Gorgeous sterling silver hoop earrings. Highlighted with foil beads and set off with silver spacer beads. These earrings are lovely if you like the dangly type. They are as light as a feather and sparkle in the sunshine and candle light.

  2. Beautiful sterling silver drop earrings. Highlighted with lavender swarovski faceted crystals and set off with a tiny glass bead and silver balls. The earrings don't just sparkle.. they outshine the stars. They are only slightly dangly as they are thread over a sterling silver rod.

  3. These ones are one of my personal favourites. Two spectacular man made ocean pearls make these earrings spectacular. They are set off with a sculpting crown of sterling silver. They are slightly heavier than normal giving off a cooling touch when they brush the cheek. These will make you feel like Grace Kelly.

  4. Deliciously pink and sparkling champagne. These earrings are highlighted with shimmery cracked glass beads, a swarovski faceted crystal and set off with silver spacer balls. They are thread onto clear jewellers elastic for maximum dangle and flexibility. With their extended length they will indeed brush against your cheek and sparkle in the sunshine.

To be in the running for these earrings... all you have to do is leave a comment on this post. I have opened up comments to everyone but added word verification to stop spam. Make sure you tell me which of the four pairs of earrings you would prefer. I will be randomly drawing out four winners on Friday and announcing them in a post later in the day.

Goodluck!

The French Quarter!

So, the latest health report indicates that husband is back at work and although he is still a little poorly... he is doing much better. Isabella is back at school though has a tiny chesty cough at nightime. Harrison had today off school as he was still having higher than normal temperatures.. though he seems to be okay to return to school tomorrow. He has a dry and irritating cough that seems to be clinging on for dear life.. but I am a redhead and will not let a wee cough rule any part of my life. Hear me roar! I am fine. I still have a wee pneumonic pain in my right side but it could just be pleuresy too.. and nothing a bit of heat treatment won't fix. I'll be fine.
I was planning on announcing my big giveaway tomorrow, but that will have to wait a little while more... as I have to prepare desserts for 40 people for yet another footy breakup party. That will be the last of footy until next Autumn.

This is what I like to call.... not getting any spring cleaning done!
Insert big sigh here.
These are my new friends....
Adele, Amelie, Claire, Monique & Ivy.
The scanner has shown up some details that I am not happy with.. but what can I do? The scanner is hard and if I give it a beating.. it will hurt me and not the scanner. Considering inserting another big sigh!
I like Adele's hair the most but I like Claire's eye's as well.
Gisele has.... of God... I am so bloody fussy that I will still think they are rubbish in the morning lol.
I am tired and off to bed.
Sweet dreams!

A few words please.

Isn't this a stunning family? I was stalking blogland yesterday when I came across a blog with some devasting news about the family in these photos. It was the blog of Stephanie Nielson of
NieNieDialogues though the writing was by her sister C Jane. When I read what had happened to this beautiful family I went into shock. I just couldn't believe it.
On Saturday, August 16, 2008, Stephanie Nielson was in a plane crash with her husband, Christian Nielson, and his flight instructor, Doug Kinnear, near St. Johns, Arizona. Doug Kinnear passed away soon after arriving at the Maricopa County Hospital. Christian & Stephanie remain in critical condition at Maricopa Burn Center. Christian has sustained burns on over 30% of his body. His wife Stephanie’s body was burned over 80%.
I don't normally like to post about other people's lives on my blog but how else is the word going to spread that these people need as many prayers as possible. So please... whatever your religion... to whomever you pray to... please ask for help for this family. I'm not asking you to donate to their cause.. nor commit to reading their blogs. I am just pleading with you to say a few words to the universe on their behalf. It could have been you! It could have been me!
Thankyou and please pass it forward.

Happy Blogaversary!

Happy 3rd anniversary dearest blog.

We might have changed names a few times
and I might have neglected you there for awhile...
But I don't know what I would do without you.

I have not got any good 'healthy' news to tell you, as we are still all quite poorly.
We did go to Harrison's footy club's breakup yesterday.
He was awarded with a trophy and team photo.
It was brilliant!

We were going to go to Riverfire last night,
but ended up watching the fireworks from our couch instead...
as we are not well enough for the night air.

I was quite emotional that we missed out on our family tradition of watching the fireworks from Mt Cootha which overlooks our city.

It just would have been a bad decision as a mother I think.
Below is a photo of our city at riverfire.

Here are some more earrings I made this weekend.
Some of my earrings will be apart of a giveaway this week to celebrate three things.
1. My blogs 3rd anniversary.
2. My brand new etsy store's gala opening.
3. The first week of spring.
I will be posting the details later on in the week when I finalise what goodies I will be giving away to some lucky blogger. I will be conducting random draws to decide winners.

This pair below has already gone to one of my dearest friends Kali.
She most gracious became my very first customer a few days ago and I made her this pair of earrings as a thankyou.

My favourites are definitely the chandelier earrings.

I will be placing some of these pairs in my shop this week as well as a few more which are yet to be complete. I have to drill a few more holes and bend some more silver before they are ready. I want to start making a few more different things as well.... besides earrings.

I am off to nurse my poorly chickens (children). They have both been hit with a nasty bug going around. It strikes children with spiking temperatures and aching bodies. Not nice!

A special thankyou to my Mum... who has directed me in the care of my sickly family and calls me twice daily to send love and check on us.

Fever!

Not much to tell really.
Christopher has Whooping Cough.
Isabella has a slight fever.
Harrison is hungry lol.
Me?
Don't have enough time!
Hope you are all germ free.

Holy Influenza!

My chest is finally clear of any pneumonia germs... though I have been laid up with the flu for the past three days. I am finally feeling like there is hope to leading a healthy life tonight and thought I'd squeeze in a post before I started feeling poorly again. Fingers crossed!

We were inundated with eight year old little girls this past weekend. They have been practising a dance routine which is to be performed during their school parade (assembly). There has been alot of giggling and squealing though not alot of dancing. Hmmmm

We harvesting some of our lavender crop this week and you can find it hanging in any spare wardrobe space throughout the house. It needs to remain in complete dark whilst hanging upsidedown... to keep it's beautiful colour and scent.

We popped out to a thrift shop or five (blushing) and found ourselves some wonderful bargains. I bought this potato and onion box for $4.50 and found the perfect job for it. I have been looking around for a toilet roll holder for months and didn't even think of this until I spotted it in the store.

While I wait for my new set of lino cutting tools to arrive... I whipped up some more sketches of future stamps. Just mucking about really.... laying some ideas onto paper etc. I really like some of them but others will need a bit of fine tuning.

Not the proper way to spell Copyright but that will do for now. The sewing designs were inspired from Kali as she is quite crafty with the sewing machine. I am off to bed now to get some much needed rest to fight of a few more germs. We have a big weekend planned and I need to be healthy.

What a Saturday!

What a jam packed Saturday!
I woke up in the morning bright and early
feeling so much better.
I knew that it would be a great day!
We had Harrison's last footy match
that morning and WE WON!
Actually.. we don't normally keep score
as they are there to have fun etc etc etc.
But since it was their last game
their coach kept score
and we won by heaps.
Harrison kicked a great goal
and I took a photo of his coach
congratulating him.

After the game, we met all the players families at Macca's.
Harrison won the McDonald's award!
I managed to get a photo before he tore off the voucher lol.
The boys have an awards day in two weeks
and the team are meeting again
for a Christmas party at their coaches house in November.

That night...
Yes, the very same saturday
(told you it was busy)
We went to the football
Australian Rules Football
to see our team
The Brisbane Lions
WIN WIN WIN
Yay!
It was the best match ever.
Point to point all the way to the end.
I was on the edge of my chair the whole night.

Harrison.... their friend Tristan.... and Isabella

The boys warming up!

What an exhausting day!

Lastly, I would like to thank everyone for their loving words and caring comments.
Isabella and I drew you a picture to say thankyou.
I was told that the hay is for the goats
The flowers are for the bunnies
And the sunshine is for Peggy!
But the drawing
Is for you
Yes you!
xox
ps. Yes I am truly feeling better and I will be going to the doctors later in the week to get a scan.

Our Weekend

This past weekend was a blast.

It started on Friday with my nephew's 8th birthday.

Although he is a trillion miles away, he was still

in our thoughts all day.. sending our love and good vibes.

This photo below was taken in January 2006

and is still one of my favourite photos.

Saturday was under 8's footy as usual.

There are only two more games left unti the season finishes.

We are planning all sorts of events to celebrate a good season.

Saturday afternoon saw us going for a long drive in the coutry

ending up at a playground of course.

Sunday was our football club's carnival.

The chickens had their first go in a dodgem car.

This sexy dude is Bernie "Gabba" Vegas

He the Brisbane Lions team mascot.

He gave us a bundle of free caps

and other free stuff.

Sunday afternoon took us in the direction

of our rose garden.

We decided we were sick of pulling out weeds and grass

and bought some 'green' weed matting.

As you can see.. it is not finished yet.

I have to finish pulling weeds

and pack on more mulch.

Monday saw me cutting rubber into stamps.

These are my very first ever stamps.

The rubber is not the recommended type

as it is more like an extremely condensed foam.

It cut ok and will be great for kids stamps.

I have found a local linoleum supplier that is

going to keep me stocked with free scraps.

After I have practised with kids designs

I can do some more intricate designs.

Today saw me in a thrift store.

I bought some romance novels ($4),

a basket ($2), a summer top ($4),

and this beauty below ($2).

Tomorrow will see me making paper!

I have an awesome tutorial and am extremely keen to give it a go.

I have been feeling poorly for quite awhile now

and finally hoofed it into the doctors.

Would you believe that I have pneumonia AGAIN!

This time he gave me a super duper dose of antibiotics

and anti-inflammatories.

I feel heaps better already.

Have an awesome day xox.

Another 3 weeks later.....

The way I figure it.....
I need to cram about 3 weeks worth of 'stuff' in this post.

I'm not sure I can do that, so I'll stick with this past weekend
and we'll go forward from there.

We went strawberry picking at a nearby farm on saturday.

We had footy in the morning and decided that we would go for a drive in the afternoon. We ended up at a farm which encourages the children to pick their own fruit and pat the animals.

We ended up with over one kilo of berries.

Sticky Meatballs with roast garlic and caramelised onion.

I cheated!

I bought a satchet from Woolworths (Safeway) of their own brand of caramelised onion and roast garlic jus from the gravy and sauces aisle.

one kilo of beef mince

two large onions finely diced

one handful of fine sugar

one whole garlic bulb finely sliced

pepper and salt

balsamic vinegar

one egg

plain flour for rolling

On the lowest heat ... cook the onion and garlic until they are transparent. Turn up the heat a small amount and add a splash of balsamic vinegar and a handful of sugar. Stir until a caramel colour. Turn off the heat and cool. When cool, add to the mince with the egg, pepper and salt. Mix thoroughly.

Shape into small meatballs that resemble a 'ping pong' ball. Roll each ball into the flour until covered and set aside.

I brown the meatballs in my non stick frypan with a small amount of cooking oil.

You can cook them in the oven or both if you like.

I don't think it matters.

I served ours with honeyed carrots and hasselback potatoes.

They were so yummy that there was a fight for the last plateful....

These are made from Dutch Salt Dough and are waiting to be painted.

They are easy to make and can be varnished to keep forever.

You can make just about anything you can dream up.

Dutch Salt Dough

2 cups plain flour

half a cup of cooking salt

1 teaspoon of glycerine

1 cup of hot water

Put it all into a bowl and stir.

Use extra water or flour if needed.

You can colour the dough with food colouring.

Wrap in plastic when not using.

Bake in a low temp oven until hard.

This last process can take hours.

Caramel Corn

8 cups cooked popcorn

1/2 cup butter
1 cup of brown sugar
one quarted cup of golden syrup
1 teaspoon of vanilla
half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda

In a saucepan on the stove, combine the butter, sugar and golden syrup.

Boil for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.

Remove from heat and add the vanilla and bicarbonate of soda.

Pour your caramel over the popcorn, and mix it up with a wooden spoon.

Place the caramel corn in a thin layer on baking sheets,

and put in a low oven for 20 minutes so it dries out a bit.

Just like store bought.

Enjoy!

ps. I am told it last for awhile in a sealed container, but I would'nt know! lol

Our chickens are learning to play golf!
We haunt the local driving range.
They have'nt played on an actual golf course yet (xbox not included)
though are both keen to play a round as soon as Daddy will let them.
I hope you enjoyed this post as much as we enjoyed creating all the happiness and goodness that went along with the activities.
With Love,
Nicole xox.

Doggie Blanket

It was especially cold today, so I thought I would whip up some doggie blankets.
I saw a very similar one on our next door neighbours dog "Boof" and I thought that I'd have a go.
I made two of this style so Jack could give his best pal, Max, one too.
They have a lovely thick layer of wool felt between the soft flannelette and fleece.
They also have a piece a thick elastice at the front to keep the side flaps neat.
I have sewn a thin though sturdy strap across the top to wrap around and tie together.
If anyone would like one of a similar style, please let me know.
Have a lovely Sunday.

A Medieval Feast

Isabella had a medieval feast today at school and I thought I would go 'all out' on her costume. She has been having some 'friendship' difficulties recently and she seems to come home with a heavy heart. I made a batch of double dutch chocolate cupcakes for her class and even whipped up four extra knights tunics for other classmates who did'nt come in costume. I am soooo glad I did all this as she had the best day she has ever had and has reunited with her best friend.

The dress/gown was made from material from my stash. I did'nt use a pattern as it was a very basic design. To be honest... I think I have only ever used a pattern three times in my entire life as I find them utterly frustrating and annoying. I used some glod satin for the deceiving underskirt... it does'nt go all the way round. The blue material is a weird man fibre.... not sure what it is. The sleeves are made of a thin raw silk which has a glimmer through it. I left them slit right down from the underarm to the sleeve with a few stitches keeping them together. There are hair bands around her arms to give the gathered and scrunched effect at the shoulders. The ribbon or trim was from my stash. It made the overall look. I am very happy with the finished gown.

The tunics were just rectangles sewn together at the shoulders with a triangle fringe on the bottome edge and a fleur de lis design on the front. They tie together with a sash, belt or ribbon. Harrison agreed to model one for me though it looks like a dress on him lol.

I had a rather busy day today...... loads of housework I needed to catch up on. Tomorrow will be a mixture of housework, football game for Harrison's team and hopefully some yarn work of some kind and perhaps some more sewing.
Hope your weekend is fantastic!

Handmade Jewellery

I am soooo clever! I am now making handmade jewellery and will be selling these and other items in my shop by next weekend. I have had containers of beads taking up precious shelf space for years now and cannot understand why I did'nt think of this idea sooner. Silly me!

Happy Birthday Dad

If tears could build a stair,

and memories a bridge,
then I'd climb up high,

to bring you back to me...

I, am a hooker! lol

I highly recommend the art of crochet to anyone in need of a craft. It is ever so easy and addictive. This is my very first crochet piece and is brought to you in the shape of an afghan blanket. It measures about 5 ft square and it is extremely thick and luxurious. The teal (although it looks green in the photo) is 100% alpaca and the black is an alpaca blend. Both yarns are 8 ply and very lush. I invented the border and will be sewing teal beads into the 'holes' in the next few days. I have a few more projects on the way and will blog them when there is enough done to show. This beautifully warm blanket is for my Mum for Mothers Day.

  20. I love the way they can 'sense' when Daddy's truck is a few streets away and start yelling 'Daddy's home' whilst tearing through the house towards the front yard.

  50. I love peacocks, dragonflies, green tree frogs and cats.
  51. I let people believe I cannot do things as I have been told that I can be..... a bit of a know-it-all. I would rather let you sit there and tell me about the fine art of 'what it is you do' for an hour or so than tell you that I can do it too and that I am quite good at it.
  52. I try to never order the same dish as someone I'm eating with, so we can pick off each other's plates.

Sunshine on a rainy day!

I feel that I owe you some craftiness!
This is the wreath that I made from a plastic Christmas wreath.
I bought silk flowers and berries from a local craft store.
It measures about 40cm across.
It cost me no more than $12 in total.
I wired the flowers and berries to the wreath.
Easy!
It now sits on my dining table with a candle in the middle.
Why should it just be used for Christmas!

I have culled my favourite crafters list!

It was quite difficult.... but I did it.

This is a list of all the bloggers that I stalk on a regular basis...

...looking for inspiration and a good kick of enthusiam.

They are all extremely talented and gifted in their creative fields.

It used to be a good 100+ instead of the 27 it is today.

I am sure it will grow again by tomorrow.

Check out some craftilicious goodness for yourself.

Tis the season to watch the men run around a big oval with teeny shorts on.
Yes my friends... AFL season is here!
Here are two photos showing our Harrison getting some instruction from the coach.
For about six weeks he will have friday night footy, then serious training begins, leading to weekend games.
Friday night footy is our club's way of teaching the young'ins to play the game.
You throw'em onto the oval and blow the whistle... lol
They divide the age groups up into smaller teams and play round robins using real referees and only a quarter? of the game time.
The coaches, older players and referees give instruction on what to do and how to do it and what they did wrong etc. The parents job is to praise good work, sit on the sideline and behave!

I have my chair, thermos and hat ready to go.

Bring it on!

More like brunch the next day....

Feast One Hundred & Seventy Eight

Appetizer

What is your favorite kind of cereal?

Crunchy Nuts Clusters

Soup

When was the last time you purchased something for your home, what was it, and in which room did it go?

This morning I woke up at 5am to go to a church yard sale.... where I purchased a number of items including a little vase for which a candle will be placed inside. This vase will end up either in our front room or beside our bed. We lurve candles.... they save on electricity, which is great for the Earth, and provides soft and romantic lighting.

Salad

What is the funniest commercial you’ve ever seen?

I love the 'Hahn' beer ads.... which you can watch HERE.

Main Course

Make up a name for a company by using a spice and an animal (example: Cinnamon Monkey).

Lemon Grass Giraffe ???

Dessert

Fill in the blank: I haven’t ______ since ______.

I haven't skinny dipped since 1991. lol

These photos were taken yesterday... this area is what you first see when you come inside our front door. I change things around quite regular... but this will stay the same for awhile as I am quite happy with the outcome. The door in the reflection opens into our master bedroom... the little blackboard is on the wall t0 the left of the front door when coming into the home. To the left of the mirror is a hall way leading into the rest of the home. To the right of the mirror is our front loungeroom or entertainment room which lives our big screen television (100 plus cms). More photos next time.... maybe lol. My style is what I call 'Hemmingway'..... dark wood and lots of white and a sprinkling of green. I love greenery and the freshness of white. Pressed (don't laugh Mum) linens and lace.... crystal and silverware.... lots and lots of light shining in through the windows. I lurve flowers too.... and have a few vases of them scattered here and there.... though I should mention that I have gone against the grain and gone with silk. I like my roses, lavender, gardenias, geisha and jasmine etc etc to stay in the garden. Don't get me wrong... a nice bunch of roses from the garden will appear when visitors are due... but I like the look of a plump rose bush. My favourite colour is raspberry red.... and this you will not yet find in our home as I can't quite figure out where it will look best. Probably in the kitchen.... but you will have to wait and see. I have started painting murals on the walls too.... but am not ready to reveal any secrets yet. Wait til you see the bathroom!

How many times per day do you usually laugh?
That's easy! Too many times to count.

Soup
What do your sunglasses look like?
They are rectangular with rounded edges. They are a dark tortoise shell colour. They have dark tinted lenses. They have a small gold buckle on either side.

Salad
You win a free trip to anywhere on your continent, but you have to travel by train. Where do you go?
I want to travel on the Ghan like my Grandfather wanted to do. You can read about and see the 'Ghan' here.

Main Course
Name one thing you consider a great quality about living in your town/city.
I love that we are 10 minutes to freerange farms, 20 minutes to the rainforest, 30 to the beach and 40 minutes to the city.

Dessert
If the sky could be another color, what color do you think would look best?
I would think that another calming colour would only do... like a pale violet... or a pale aqua. Although it they are not much different than the original blue... they would produce the same calming effects.

Cooooeeeeeeee

Ever walked into a ghost town?

I mean....

Ever opened a door and walked into a room.....

a room so big that your voice would echo and bounce from wall to wall.....
and you are the only one there?

Well....

Here I am!

In that very same room....

but you may call that room my blog!

lol

Above is a watercolour done at the end of the school year.... December 2007!

I have been doing bits and pieces since then but did'nt have a proper camera to take photos with as mine was stolen...... along with my laptop. But thanks to the magic of insurance, I have since replaced both items, and life resumes itself with a little joyful kick.

I hope all your Christmas' and New Years celebrations were spectacular.

We spent our Christmas with my Mother, Grandmother and other much loved family and friends. New Years eve was celebrated with my best friend Cherie and her son Tristan. We were very lucky to witness live fireworks going off right in front of our home. One of our neighbours (who shall remain nameless due to the breaking of laws with fireworks) invited us to share in the fun (very safely I must insist) and for about 20 minutes..... the boys ran back and forth lighting them and cleaning up debri. It was extremely loud but oh so much fun.

As the monsoon has set in we had to cancel any holiday camping trips that were planned and rely on our imaginations and quick thinking to come up with exciting new plans.

School resumes a week from today and thats when my life is back on track with the painting, glueing, sewing, cutting, stitching, drawing and all those other marvelous things I do when I am in a creating frenzy. Hi ho hi ho it's back to work I go.

This past weeked proved to be ......... Extreme!

We went on a bushwalk that lasted for days ... lol

Actually it was about 4 km's or so in total

I think..... not sure!

We went to visit a waterfall and gorgeous swimming hole plopped in the middle of one of our many local rainforests here in sunny Queensland. Christopher Rooster and Harrison Chicken went for a swim in the delicous water whilst the rest of us watched and bathed ourselved with refreshing cloths dipped into the icy water. We sat and watched teenagers attempting to commit suicide by diving off the nearby rock cliffs. I now know why there is a helicopter landing pad stuck in the middle of the wilderness. You can't see the bottom of the water and the waterhole is surrounded by large rocks and boulders. Idiots!

I captured a few images for you.

That man is my very own Christopher Rooster.

Yesterday morning I discovered a tick in Harrisons hair and rushed him to the local hospital to get it removed. The ticks body was removed but the tip of the head is still lodged into his scalp. The little bugger would'nt release it's grip when it was told to. Harry is just fine and I am watching him like a hawk for signs of infection and such..... I was told that it should pop out in a day or two. It sure scared the heck out of me though!

Thats all for now my friends.

I apologise for the lengths in between blogging.

Mary Moo Cow

I had a birthday cake to do this past weekend for our next door neighbour. It was her granddaughters 2nd birthday and she wanted a 'cow' cake. The cake is chocolate sponge with buttercream. It measured about 100 cm's by about 50 cm's. It was pretty big.

I hope you are all well.

Talk soon.

Phil & J J Jackson

A couple of new mates to introduce you to.
The first is a penguin named 'Phil'.
lol
Weird name..... I know....... but I like it!
He is an idea from my 'crafty files'.
He will be for sale by the end of this week.
The second is a dog.
He is an idea I came up with the other night.
I found that our dog Jack 'borrowed' another pair of my knickers.
Which he stashed under our bed.
Which is not an unusual thing for him to do.
This gave me an idea to make 'knicker sniffers'.
lol
They are filled with lavender and go in your knickers drawer.
This one is called 'J J Jackson'.
I'm not sure if he is finished yet.
He will be for sale by the end of this week.
This particular one is not filled with lavender.

I have been making hot air balloons today.

They will be for sale in my etsy shop as well...... when I have them finished.

A couple of paintings and other bits and pieces as well.

Hopefully I will have a few things in my shop by friday and will be open for business.

Yay!

Hmmmmm

.

Blogger is taking exceptionally longer to download photos today.

.

Fairy photos.... as promised!

.

I found this little fairy at the bottom of my garden just the other day.

.

I am a strong believer in not saving your special things for special occassions.....

especially if you are a little girl.

Everyday is a special day for a seven year old.

Everyday should be treasured and lived as if it were your last.

So get out those special frocks girls..... give me a twirl.

.

I am having the most unpleasant time uploading photos today.

.

As promised.... camping photos.

.

I have included a map or two, so you get the idea of where we were, and how far we travelled. It only took four hours to get there.... which is marvellous when two children are in the back seat. We went with my best friend Cherie and her family. It was fantastic...... no, it was bloody brilliant. Chris got some much needed R & R and the rest of us spent the whole week giggling like silly chickens. This destination will now be highlighted and underlined for a new family holiday spot. Awesome!

.

We stayed at a camp gound just north of the town of Ballina.
It was a lovely town.... lots to see, lots to buy.... but just your average seaside town. I mean that in the nicest possible way. There are lots of places to eat, shop and play.We live just north of Brisbane in Queensland (near
Flossy). Brisbane is north, following the coastline, from where we were. You have to drive through the Gold Coast to get there.

Here is our camp site.

The tent above is ours. The tent in the background below is Cherie's.

Behind where I am taking the photo, is our food tent, or 'fly' tent. You can see a little bit of it in the photo below. In this part of Australia, you need some protection from the flying insects...... so we have a special tent just for storing our food and sometimes we eat in there if the mozzies are out and about.

My man.... what a hunk-a-spunk!

The 'view' from my 'regular' position on the beach.

This is the road coming down from the Byron Bay lighthouse.

We spent one whole day there siteseeing and ate 'brunch' at a wonderful cafe overlooking the beach. I had apple and cinnamon pancakes with raspberry and maple sauce. Sigh!

Photo below is not mine (tourist site).

The photo below is of my bounty.

There were thousands of shells around the rocks at low tide.

The camping ground was practically on the beach.

There was a point of rock called 'flat rock' and beach either side.

You could walk over the rocks and explore the rock pools.

It was magical.

We spent our days usually on the beach. We would either collect shells, paddle in the water, or read our trashy novels lol. I took my knitting but it did'nt get to see daylight. The kids got to 'boogie' board or body surf..... all day long. Isabella is convinced that she wants to become a pro surfer.... I can just imagine her doing that too. The kids played around the camp site when we were there.... there were other kids around us, so they had 'friends'. We cooked all our food together and bbq'd to our hearts content. I even baked ribs on the camp fire.... yum! We had a bad night though.... when the smoke from the fire blew straight through our eating area and our food went cold as we tried to fix it. I got really cranky but learnt a valuable lesson.

Most nights we would sit around the fire and chat the night away. We have half of a galvanised metal drum that we use for a fire pit. Chris is going to make a grill plate to put over it for cooking. The chickens would toast marshmallows and tell scary stories.

This would have to be the worst photo of me ever.....

but I wanted you to see my angel.

It tok about one minute in my arms,

before Harrison was fast asleep,

and it was the best cuddle of my life.

ps... more crafty photos next time.

I have to keep checking my last entry to see when I blogged last. I am such a slacker at keeping my blog up to date. The good thing is that there are no expectations
of me but the bad thing is that I seem to have lost quite a few friends.
I have installed a new tracking device onto my blog so I can see when there are any bloggers checking in on me and not commenting. I really hate it when people do that, so I thought I'd do something about it, and put in booby traps. I must admit that I don't comment on all the 'crafty' blogs that I call in on to get inspiration from. I think that they are used to that.... but I'm just little old me.... I lurve attention of any kind. Obviously I won't be hunting anyone down who doesn't comment.... I just want to know who and when etc. Thats all!
I found this photo late last year in my search for inspiration and kept it... just in case. My next door neighbour's daughter just had a baby girl and the perfect opportunity came up to whip something clever up.

This is what I came up with...

What do you think?

It didn't get as much Oooohinh and Ahhhing as I'd hoped, but it was greatly appreciated anyway. I think my ego needs a good talking to. lol

Anyway, I'll be back in the next couple of days and I'll have pictures of our recent camping trip and of a fairy I found at the bottom of our garden the other day.

Told you I'd be back.... though it is a flying visit as I'm off to Warwick this morning to catch up with Mum and Grandma. It is Mums birthday next Tuesday and then Grandma's birthday the week after. Christopher and I are taking the chickens on a week long camping holiday and will be away for Grandma's birthday.

Below is a photo of some family friends and relatives standing with Grandma at 'Queen Mary' falls. It is a beautiful waterfall in the mountains near where Mum lives. Mum is taking the photo and they had just sprinkled Poppy's ashes into the lush greenery below. He would be very pleased with this.

This is my best friend Cherie with her brand new Puppy 'Max'. He is a Shitzu X maltese and is nine weeks old in this picture. She was'nt going to get him because they had just lost a pup last week but I talked her into it. They are in puppy love. Mum and pup are doing extremely well.

This is one of the gifts I am giving Mum for her birthday. They are three pottery frames from a thrift shop which I thought have great potential. I repainted the timber and finished them with a clear varnish. I am very pleased with the outcome and hope she will be too.

You may recognise this next picture. I have repainted over three paintings of mine. I used a three dimensional paint which looks like porcelain when dry. I have shown you the complete process to prove how easy it is... and it may inspire one of you to do something similar. These paintings are for my Grandma. She has dark coloured paint on her bedroom walls, so I thought this light colour should look great, and I'm extremely pleased with the finished effect. It looks alot like stone tablets or fine porcelain tiles etc. Very pleased!

I'll be back in a couple of days and hope to catch up with all my friends then. I'll have only one thing to prepare for, so it wont be a mad rush and I can sit down with a cuppa, and enjoy a chat with you. xox Nic

Can you believe......

It has been one whole month since I have last blogged?
I been both busy and sick. I have had school carnivals, weddings, birthdays & much more to deal with.... and I have been quite poorly throughout the entire process with a chesty cough and swollen tonsils. I am starting to feel much better now. I could use a few of your ideas about getting rid of annoying coughs though!

Firstly, I will show you the very latest project that kept me extremely busy this past week. It is a three tiered wedding cake. The top and bottom and chocolate mud cake and the middle is carrot cake. The flowers are fresh. I also did the brides hair and makeup, but photos will have to wait, as I forgot to get permission to display the photos.

Second.... Here are the latest photos of my chickens. We had a good hour left of sunlight before dusk fell. The photos were taken for Fathers Day 2007. Here are some of my favourites out of the 150 that I took.

I have been up to heaps more.... but I'll save it for another time.

Ahoy there me matey's....

Goodness, it has been awhile since we last caught up.... has'nt it? I have been up to my armpits in life. It has been rather refreshing to see the fruits of our hardwork appearing before our very eyes. We have had so much on our 'to do' lists that everything was pushed to one side...... this includes all things blogger. I won't fetch too far back in history to update you on our comings and goings..... as my mind is full of 'the sickness' spreading around suburbia of late. Yes, I have a cold..... hopefully not for too much longer as it is making me into the biggest grump machine of all time. Thankfully it is not the influenza A virus which is killing people.... yes, you heard right. There is a strand of the flu bug going around which is fatal. Someone hand me four face masks please. We have have a few fatalities in our city alone. A bit scary!

We have been doing some work on our gardens and inside our home. I got sick of seeing everyone else's homes looking spiffy and decided to reprioritise our lives and get the important stuff done. We have been organising our lives as well. It is most enjoyable and exciting. Sort of like going on a holiday.... and coming back with a spring in your step.

Our male chicken 'Harrison' turned 6 while you were away and we threw a pirate party for all his mates. There were a few away due to the 'sickness' going around, therefore only 20 or so turned up....... although a good time was had by all. We laughed, played, ate and had an excellent time. Thanks to my two Aunts and my best friend who helped out on the day. I could'nt have done it without them. Below are a few of the photos I took on the day.

I thank everyone who checked in on me from time to time to see how I was. I apologise for my absence but I have not had the inclination to enter the blogger world. I guess I have had a wee holiday from it all. This coming Monday is my Poppy's birthday. We were supposed to go with my Mum and Grandma to spread his ashes.... but we are too sick to do so.

Don't get me wrong. I'd really like to go and say my final goodbye to this man that I adored. It would be like letting a cage full of butterflies out into the freedom of the skies..... a way to release pent up emotions, if you like. I'd like to go..... but we are too sick. It is so hard sometimes to just let my emotions out..... I keep checking to see who is around me watching me and judging me. It is a shame. I have so much built up inside. But, enough of that, it is depressing.

Belated Birthday wishes to Kali, one of my sweetest friends. I am truly sorry that I missed your Birthday.... and anyone else that I forgot. I am also sorry to all my blogging friends for not 'being there' for you all. I hope you understand that I needed 'time out' to heal.

All my love, Nicole xox.

What women want!

This week was the second week of the school holidays and I am counting the days. I love having my chickens home in the coop with me but 'phew' am I glad it's nearly over.

Last Saturday saw us going to a park near Redcliffe with our mates Cherie and Tristan. It was a great afternoon and we will definitely be going back to that gorgeous playground. We ordered fish and took them with us but by the time we discovered the fish was missing it was too late. We dropped by the shop on the way home and they gave us two tropical burgers free of charge. They were the best burgers I have ever tasted.

Last Sunday saw us attending 'Finding Nemo' on ice. I have added a few photos though most are out of focus as they were taken on my mobile phone. We had a great night. We were in the VIP section and felt quite special. It was amazing! The fairyfloss was $10 and flown in from the USA lol. There must have been four times the usual amount in that bag and Harry ate the whole lot.

The chickens and I arrived home yesterday after a three day stay at Mum's house in Warwick. Mum's new fella had to have a double hernia operation in Brisbane and Grandma didn't fly home from Victoria until Monday night. Therefore the chickens and I headed over to dog and house sit.... and of course ensure there was a hot meal ready for their arrival on Tuesday.

'Barry' is fine though a bit sore and sorry. Mum caught him sneaking a cigarette and there were a few heated words and looks exchanged but all is on the mend lol. You see, he promised not to touch the horrid things whilst still on antibiotics for the operation and got caught breaking his promise. The photos below are of Barry at his place of work. I have'nt spent alot of time with him, but he seems like a lovely man, and makes Mum very happy.

Grandma said the service was lovely for all the family and friends down south and could'nt be more pleased. Mum and I didn't go down to that service. Grandma needed the extra attention without 'us' there. I can guarantee that whilst it may sound strange that we didn't go with her.... it wasn't. We did have the proper funeral together the other week, and the family who could'nt be there with us, had a separate service in Victoria. The photo below is of My Dad, my Grandma, my Pop, my Mum and me. That was taken at Montrose, Victoria and I was about 7.

The wind outside my window is practically cyclonic. We were planning to test fly Christopher's new stunt kite this weekend, which he bought cheap on ebay, but that might have to wait until the wind dies down. We might find a secluded place and throw the fishing rods in. Who knows!

I'll leave you with the following fun and festivities for you to enjoy. Feel free to participate and carry on my good humour. Lots of love, Nic xox.

~

I have just finished watching a recorded television show that is made here in Australia. It is called 'The Nation' and is solely a show about the weeks news events turned into comedy routines. It is quite funny if you are open to such bad taste humour ~ which 'sometimes' I am. Tonight saw the start of a new segment called 'Secret women's business' which was hosted by two of Australia's funniest female comedians, of which both their names have slipped from my mind, due to the fact that I am in the last days of school holidays and my mind imploding. Anyway, that's another story........ Here is a list these fantastic women started to compile, and which I am adding to, and I invite you to as well.

I'll call my list.......

"A Woman's World"

Women should get their very own public holiday once a month. All sanitary items are free and plentiful. Every house is provided with sanitary bins that get emptied by the council.

Children do not interrupt us when we are talking to another person. Children are taught how to rub their mothers feet in school.

The council will provide me with a free water tank free of charge to cope with the level five water restrictions they have in place and for which I cannot afford the added extra expense.

Men are not allowed to use the ensuite toilet nor urinate in the shower, must replace the toilet paper when the roll is emptied and PUT THE SEAT DOWN.

Child care is tax deductable as is the bus which will pick them up and bring them back home again to their loving Mothers. All child care facilities provide free meals, nappies and entertainment.

Shoes, clothes and toiletries are sold on prescription. Beauty salons take medicare cards.

Chocolate and flowers are mysteriously delivered to our front door steps every day. Gym memberships are free and have attendents who make us feel all giddy, giggly and girlish. These attendents will look at us like we are aphrodite and tell us how much they want us. I did say this way 'my' list.....

Men are not allowed to say the word "NO" to women. Men take their children out for a few hours every weekend. Men are not allowed to wear socks in bed, nor know what the words 'dutch oven' mean. Men are not allowed to be honest about their wives cooking.

Mothers Day lasts for a week.

Christmas is redefined for the holiday it really is and present giving is kept to a $20 minimum for ALL children and adults. Men must help with the washing up after Christmas dinner. Men must sing Christmas carols with the family on the eve of this special day.

Men must not comment on the dust bunnies he notices around the home. Men will remember to empty out their pockets before putting their clothes in the dirty clothes basket. Men will remove their sock before they get home and put fresh ones on every day. Men will wear their wives favourite after shave only around their wives. Men will cook an actual meal once a week on the bbq with salad and fresh bread.

Drinks with the mates down the pub means a maximum of two beers no more than twice a week and agreeing to 'take the kids of her hands' when he gets home.

~

I have to stop myself there as I fear there is no end to my list lol.

Sunshine after the rain.....

I am back after taking some time out for the planning and preparation of Poppy's funeral.
I honestly have'nt felt like visiting blogs etc. I apologise but my heart has been feeling heavy. Thankyou to all who have kept in contact with me via commenting and emails etc. You have all been so very kind and made me feel that I am not alone. Thankyou for your beautiful and kind words. I thankyou all for your friendships and how you have given your hearts to me so freely.

I would like to mention that besides all my online friends, I also have my closest friends Cherie and Melissa by my side. They both live nearby and can come to me in minutes if need be..... just to let you know. I am not one to express myself orally, but prefer the use of the keyboard, to open myself up and share my feelings. It is comforting to that you are all there... whether it be by email or messenger.... it is very comforting to me.

Here are some words from a letter I sent out to all my closest online friends.

It's difficult to write down my feelings and emotions these days.....
God has taken too many loved one's from my family and I am trying my best to understand why and accept that this happens. I guess that I am lucky to have the family I have left and should be ever grateful for that. There are others who have much less than I and I need reminding of this.

The funeral went very well. I think that Poppy would have been very pleased with what we did. We called it a celebration and reminded friends and family of all the good times and qualities he shared with us. I spent hours writing the eulogy with Chris as I wanted him to be proud of us. Christopher read out most of it. Mum read a personal letter whilst I read two verses. We had a handful of guest speakers as well. We wanted it to be personal and low key due to his requests. We will scatter his ashes around the 20th August.... his birthday. There will be another service on 1st July in Victoria for all the friends and family down that way. There will also be a memorial at a later date for the Masonic Lodge. He was a well respected man and will be greatly missed.

Christopher and I are thinking about selling our house and renting as it will put us in a better place financially. We will end up nearly doubling our money from what we bought the house for. After repaying the mortgage, we will be putting a nest egg away for another mortgage, or buying Mum and Grandma's share's of their house. We will either rent around where we are or move to Warwick (Mum's town) and look after my Grandmother. Christopher wants to move to Warwick and become a truck driver. He says it is because he needs a change and more income... but I think it is because he likes having family nearby and being apart of a community, which we will be in Warwick. Mum has found herself a new man and things are looking up for her. He has'nt asked her to... but we think they will end up sharing their lives together. He works at a big mine quite a distance away and has two houses. He comes home for a few days every month and Mum reckons that is a fantastic arangement lol. He is a sweetheart and definitely not someone looking for a free ride compared to the last few. I can understand her wanting to be loved again and I hope this works out for her. It will mean that I have to take over caring for Grandma but I see that as a privelege not a burden. All she has to do is give us 'the nod' and we will be there.

Rooster and I have been spending alot of time with the chickens doing wonderful things like kite flying, fishing, star gazing, bush walks and picnics etc. We love the outdoors and hope to add to our kite collection (we have three). Rooster just bought (cheap on ebay) a stunt/trick kite to learn how to do kite acrobatics. Should be fun to see him getting dragged along the beach lol. In the photos above, they are with their friend 'Tristan', at a nearby beach. There was no wind on this day, so the chickens had to run up and down the beach, and promptly fell asleep in the car due to exhaustion lol.

This Sunday afternoon, we will be going to see 'Disney On Ice Presents Finding Nemo'. We are very excited as this will be our first 'on ice'. We have been to a few large scale concerts and productions but this will be the first time we have front row seats. I mean, rink side seats lol. We will be taking a thermos of hot chocolate I think.

So, that's all from me, for now. I will try and do the rounds of all my favourite blogs today, tonight or tomorrow. I am easing back into bloglife gently as my mind is still mushy. I hope to hear from you all soon.... no matter how or when, just to know that you are all doing great. I have you all in my thoughts. Much love, Nicole xox.
ps.... no art or crafting yet.... soon!

A time to reflect...

To my dearest blogger friends,

Tomorrow we are heading back to Warwick to prepare for Poppy's funeral on Friday. Christopher and I wrote the Eulogy these past few days with Mum and Grandma editing each copy that was sent to them. We each have a little something to say and have all agreed to keep the mood light and uplifting. I cannot predict how the day will go, but I am sure that if we stick together, we will be fine. We have back up readers just in case we cannot manage due to emotions.

I will give you a brief idea of what happened last Monday though I will be leaving quite alot out as there is a possibility of a coroners inquest and police investigation.

The week before last, Poppy had surgery done on his neck to remove another cancer, on the opposite side to the last one. He came out of surgery fine, and the doctor told him that they were successful in removing the cancer, and he could look forward to another three or so years of healthy living. After a few days in hospital, he was discharged, and allowed to come home. After a few more days, it was decided that Poppy was'nt healing as he should, and he was taken to the local hospital to get checked over. Poppy was admitted immediately. Over the course of the day, the swelling increased, and it became more difficult for him to breathe. Later that night, we received a phone call, telling us that he was deteriorating. At about 1am, another phone came telling us that he needed to be transferred to a bigger hospital. Mum and Grandma set out to meet the ambulance. Unfortunately he did'nt make the trip. It was not quick and certainly not pain free. That is all I will tell you.

It was quite a shock being told one day that your Grandfather has many years left in him, and then quite the opposite happening, just days after. As you could imagine, I went into shock, and I still don't think it has completely sunk in. I have been blessed with a sense of calmness.

It is heartbreaking to see his best friend, our son, with a broken heart. Christopher and I tried to start talking to him again last night about what he would see when he walked into the chapel. Poppy would be in his wooden chariot, waiting to go to heaven, after we all said our goodbyes. He started to cry and cover his ears. It will be difficult on Friday. Isabella is doing great, but every now and then comes out with excuses for not doing things, using Poppy as her alibi. I am too sad that Poppy has gone to clean my room. lol I try hard not to laugh and explain that Poppy would'nt like her saying that. "Poppy wants her to smile and clean her room...... " trying to hide my giggle. I can play that game too. She asked me to make her some extra afternoon tea yesterday...... so you can guess what I said...... "I'm too sad that Poppy is gone to make extra food" Poppy would be in hysterics at that, I can just see him now.

So anyway, I would to extend a huge thankyou to everyone who has left a comment or emailed me or sent a card. It meant the world to me and I thankyou all. It has been good to talk to people about what has happened and I am blessed to have so many beautiful blogger friends.

I will go now as I have nothing else to say. I will wait until next week to visit your blogs, and in the meantime, please know that I am thinking of you all.

With all my love, Nicole xox.

Catching Up

Firstly, I cannot believe that blogger let me publish fifteen photos on the same post. It has left me quite stunned. Well, after yet another great distance between posts..... here I am complete with new hairstyle. I wanted a brighter shade for winter, so in went a richer red over all the old colour and regrowth, which I am quite happy about. I had an awful lot of blonde highlights featured on my part, so I flirted with the colour for a minute, to give it a vibrant red oomf! It is much brighter in real life compared to the self portrait photograph. Don't you just love the ginger eyebrows? I must remember to pencil them in next time I put on my 'going out, but not anywhere fancy' face. Check out all those gorgeous smile lines..... Beautiful!
Well, I have finally finished Mum's scarf. When it hangs around the neck, the ends reach below the waist, which I think is a good length for a length. I just have to decide if I am going to put adornments on the ends like beads or such.
I should mention that there are NO errors.
It is perfect and finished.
This morning was Harrison's class nursery rhyme concert. Harry chicken went as 'The Grand Old Duke of York". Apparently he looked nothing like the real character... so says Isabella chicken. I think he looked great and so did anyone else I prompted to say so to my boy. I made a red feather to go in his (pirate) hat and a few props to make him more 'duke' like. He is holding a sign with soldiers on it and another which is a big hill. He did really well with the song as well. I am very proud of him.
I finished operating on Mum's gnome. He has been in a few wars of recent. The last war was between himself and Harrison. He ended up in a gazillion pieces in a bag destined for the rubbish. I rescued him and stitched him back together. Granted, there are a few pieces missing, but I am led to believe he has been like that for awhile. So he will be returned to Mum with an apology from Harry chicken.
This is 'Birdie'. He is our Yellow Crested Cockatiel. We have had him for about 2 years. He has had two housemates but both have met harrowing circumstances. The first mate he had took a chance to escape whilst Christopher Rooster was cleaning their cage. He accidently dropped the cage and the bottom fell out.
This is part of our backyard. We are on a quarter on an acreage and have a generous backyard. At the moment we are in the midst of a drought and our lawn looks like a toad's breakfast. This weekend I will be dancing around in my spikey turf shoes to aerate the soil and help it thrive.
On a good note... it has been raining here for the last two days,
which means more water for the dams.

Mum gave me a whole lot of statues and garden plaques.... or signs if you like.
They are gorgeous.

This is one of my Orchids. They are one of my favourite flowers.

This is my beautiful Jack. He is a Jack Russell. He is about two and a half.

This photo is to show my Mum that I do know how to hem curtains...lol

Even if they are only tab top curtains. They used to drag on the ground and I would catch Mum staring at them, trying not to be obvious, but I could tell she was looking at them. I do 'get' the idea that I should take pride in my home, but I can sometimes be too lazy, or just too busy.

This bookshelf is in my kitchen/eating room. It is filled with jars of ingredients for baking and cooking. I use alot of baking ingredients and this is the easiest way (and nicest) for me to store them all. Some have labels but I know what the difference is between others.

So there you go.

A bit of a catch up. We are all well again. This weekend is a long weekend and when I know what we are doing, I will let you know, but apart from that..... nothing special is planned. We may go camping or fishing, who knows, especially if this rain keeps up.

My computer is up to date again but I still have alot of files to beg, borrow and steal. My music collection is updated and modernised, thanks to MMM and JJJ, our favourite radio stations. I also log onto their web sites and get the latest top 100 songs and albums. I think I have about 11 gig of music now. The best thing of all is that there is no lame music in my collection anymore. I should mention that this is all done above board.

I am off to go pack up some ebay parcels ready for posting in the morning.

So until next time..... xox Nic

Peggy, congrats on the birth of Diva's kids.

Robyn, deepest sympathies about Oscar.

Gina, well done with your webcam.

MsRobyn, well... she knows what I'm thinking xox

Hope I have'nt missed anyone.

And a foot note.....

Poppy had another surgery yesterday to remove another cancer on the other side of his neck. He is fine and they got it all. He is a tough old bugger!

How Do You Feel Today?

I would have to say a little bit of everything. Especially regretful, as I "accidently" wiped all my personal documents from my computer yesterday. I don't really mind about the paperwork as it can mostly be re-done. It was all the photographs I had taken since the beginning of last year. I have had to call on my family and friends, to send me 'back' the photos and disks that I gave them, so that I can replenish my supply. I could pick out about half of those faces for all the feelings I went through. I will go through my blog tomorrow and save all the photos there as well. That'll teach me! I lost about 500 music files too.......... Big Sigh!

Sorry that it's been quite awhile...... (what's new!). I have been terribly busy. I will try to list just a few things I have been doing so you get an idea of what life has been like for me lately.

Isabella and I have had nasty colds this past weekend and unfortunately the bugs have settled down in our chests for the cooler nights. We get chest infections quite easily and I have to watch Isabella closely as she has had pnuemonia twice already.

We have been doing alot of fishing lately. Nearly every weekend actually. We go to a place called Coochin Creek. It is really weird as you have to take a dirt road through the state forest which then turns to bitumen about 15 minutes up the road. There are a handful of houses there as well..... which you'd never know about unless someone told you or you got adventurous as we did and decided to have a look one day. We don't catch alot but have heard others tell us tales of big catches. Hmmmm I wonder whether they are exaggerating or we just cannot catch them?

I have been trying to clean out alot of the clutter that is eating our house. We have two rooms where all the clutter migrates to. The garage has been converted to a spare room where all the lost souls of things 'not in use' go to die. It is carpeted and has two beds in it. It has pretty curtains for guests privacy.... but nothing covering the garage door, which could be off putting. I am thinking about putting the two single beds in Isabella's and Harrison's room's and putting all the kids toys in the garage. This way, if we have visitors they will be inside, and the kids can bunk together. Then all the kids toys and books etc can be in the carpeted garage and altogether for playtime.

I have been op-shopping for bargains. I'd post some photos but I have lost them all. I bought a pudding steamer so I can make christmas puddings and syrup puddings etc. I have wanted one for years but they were too expensive. I also found heaps of childrens books, some vintage sewing bits and pieces, a handbag and some other books.

Harrison's class have a nursery rhyme concert coming up and Harrison will be The Grand Olde Duke of York. I have to make him a Duke's hat and accessories this week so he looks spiffy.

I have been spending every piece of my spare time knitting my Mum's scarf. This may sound pretty trivial to some of you, but with my hectic life, it is a grand feat to me.

I have been designing some doggie clothes for Jack. I will start sewing them this weekend hopefully. They will mostly be polar fleece for warmth.

We had a chocolate drive this past week as well. We managed to collect over $200 for our school which is pretty excellent. Many thanks go to the hungry mechanics, service team and sales team at Nissan lol. We only ate two boxes out of about 60!

A big congratulations to Miss Diva at Hidden Haven for giving birth to her beautiful new baby kids. Well done Peggy and Aunty Robyn.

If anyone has had any experience with cats.... please visit Gina to help her with her cat problem.

I really have'nt had time to do any craft work. I made a handbag for my Mum in law for Mothers Day but forgot to take photos of it. I have hundreds of ideas and works in progress but won't touch any of them until I get this scarf finished.

I have been volunteering at the school alot, especially in Harrison's class, as I have been spending alot of time in Isabella's class lately. He seems to 'play up' alot when I am in the classromm and so I have to stagger my visits to suit his moods. Yesterday he started crying when I was paying attention to his classmates instead of him.

I have been flat out getting this computer back to normal. I have also realised that I lost all my business style sheets and design sets.... all my craft files and idea folders.... and all my interent favourites. Bugger! This post has been put away and taken out about half a dozen times. I am so tired and am now going to have a lay down. So with that.... I bid you a farewell until next time.

A Mother's Love....

A Mother's Love

A Mother's love runs deep

More profound than her child will ever know

It isn't until a child holds her own

Will she possibly comprehend the meaning of love

I never truly knew how my Mother felt about me

Until I held my own daughter

It was at that moment I understood

Just how much she cared

We finally shared a bond

So common, yet so miraculous

I looked to her for guidance

As she gave it to me without judgement

Her kind words and advice

Came quickly to reality

She was my mentor and my friend

Without her I was lost

So many times she had gone

Above and beyond the call of a Mother

I wanted to say, "Thankyou"

And convey how grateful I was

For everything she had done

Not just while I was a Mother

But especially for when

I was her daughter.

My Mum is my best friend. We may not always agree with each other but we can agree to disagree. We have gone through some ups and downs together, some hugs and arguments, but we will always be there for each other. We never dwell on the negative and always strive for the positive. "Build a bridge' as we always say.... and 'Life is too short'. My Mum is the most giving and forgiving person I have ever known. She is the strongest of character and softest of nature. She is what I strive to be. She is my Mum.
Happy Mother's Day Mum,
Love from Nic xox.

It is my Dad's Birthday today.... he would have been 58.
The kids and I will make him a cake to celebrate his life
...........and to remember.
He has been gone for three years now.
I always forget the exact date he went....
I think it's for a good reason.
I want my children to remember him
and how much he loved us all.
I miss him.

Told you I'd be back!

Wow.... does'nt time fly when you're busy? Would you believe me if I told you that I have been away nearly four weeks. Away from blog land that is.... I have been busy filling orders for baby slings, wedding cakes and a big cupcake order. I went on an excursion to Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo with Isabella's class and it was fantastic. I have been before but it is a fantastic zoo and I would gladly visit again and again.

This photo is of the five chickens that Cherie and I had to usher around the zoo. Cherie is a good friend of mine and Mum of Tristan at rear of croc. The croc is not real.

This photo is of a croc handler feeding a salt water croc.

That was held in the Crocasium (croc-a-see-um).

It is where all the main events are held.

This photo was taken at the gates of Tiger land. I was a good Mum.... I bought the five chickens all a keyring of Steve each. One of the chickens lost theirs and Isabella gave hers to the clumsy little duck. I bought Harrison and Isabella some other goodies too.

I won the boys two free tickets to see our rugby team "The Brisbane Broncos" play a few weeks ago. I had to ring up one of our favourite radio stations "Triple M" and I got through.. Yay!

This photo was taken by Chris on a mobile phone and shows Harrison standing next to rugby league legend Wally Lewis.

This is one of our favourite fishing spots. I think I have shown you this one before of Christopher sitting on the bridge..... not sure. The sand flats are what is surrounding the bridge at low tide. The bridge is unused and is next to the used bridge. There is a channel running under one part of the too long to walk across bridge and we sometimes cannot get a spot and have to fish in the shallows. This of course ends up in dozens of toad fish and cat fish being caught and husband throwing tantrums. We have another favourite spot but since we have'nt caught a fish there in awhile.... hubby is giving it a rest and searching for other places. We get beeps from car horns sometimes and the kids enjoys waving and yelling hello at the passing motorists. I just tilt my hat down a little further and act inconspicuous.... lol

This is my famous home made pizza. I have become quite the expert at bread, pasta and pizza making and enjoy eating the end result. The kids love putting their own toppings on their pizza and our neighbour loves getting the spare focaccia or two.

These are some of the eighty cupcakes I had to make for a 40th Birthday Party. They were half chocolate and half vanilla with butter icing on top.

I had three spare, one of which I gave to my next door neighbour Wendy, and the other two went to my chickens of course. My fellow school mums were not impressed that I showed up cupcake-less though. I will bake some more especially for them... lol

This is the wedding cake I finished this morning,

set up and ready to be cut into pieces.

Aaaaaaaaaaagh!

They are chocolate mud cakes with royal icing and hand made sugar flowers.

There are twentyone roses on and around that cake painstakingly made by me.

We have a concert to go to tomorrow night at our local show grounds. It is a huge event for our shire which attracts all of our city. It is a county music weekend which holds hundreds of different events over the long weekend. We are going to a music muster with fireworks, bon fires, bands, food and drink, and heaps more. Should be great. All four of us have a strong appreciation for any music which gets the toes tapping.

I have much more to do before the next weekend, which is Mother's day, so please forgive me if I don't drop by until later. I am not abandoning you..... just so very busy. I send my love to my friends and hope all is well. Please drop me an email to say hi and I will reply promptly.

xox Nicole

ps... I will post photos of hand made mothers day goodies after the fact. We don't want to ruin the surprises after all..... do we? No we don't!

Back to where I started!

Sorry about the delay, but we went away for Easter, and only got back yesterday. I did'nt want to blog until I knew what the test results were. They are all inconclusive to the problem. I am right back where I started from. The blood tests that were back were normal and the smear was normal too. I am confident that this means no cancer nor abnormalities.... in fact, I am sure that the result will be that it is just one of those things. I have another appointment on Friday which will lead to a referral to a Gyn specialist. I did'nt want to post this on my blog due to the 'big deal' it became.... but there are those of you who I think would want to know. There is no 'poor me' in my vocabulary.

Again, I cannot stress any further that I am in hardly any pain, and the only emotion seeping out of my brain is frustration due to the bloody inconvenience of it all. I thank you all so very very much for all the advice and good wishes. There's nothing like being held up by the caring words of others to keep you on a high. Excellent!

Below are some old photos from when I started learning how to decorate cakes. They are all done with butter cream on sponge. The top cake is about three feet square.... The middle cake is about two feet across.... and the bottom two cakes are about six feet by three feet. I won prizes for all of those cakes, which included trophies and ribbons. I ended up winning 32 trophies and 42 ribbons in those days. I still write to my old boss as she and I had quite a bond.

I have a huge day planned tomorrow and hope to fit in some crafting and blog surfing in the afternoon or evening.... so watch out, here I come. I have about a dozen items to put on ebay and heaps of tidying up. Mum gave me alot of things on the weekend that I need to find homes for. She also gave me some of my Dad's things to treasure..... and with all my heart, I will.

I had mentioned in an earlier post that I had an appointment to have an ultra sound done on my girly bits. I have edited out the whole story (and comments) explaining why as I have been getting alot of emails and comments. Alot were lovely, sweet and show how much some of you care. I am fine and this can be fixed. Please don't worry. I needed to vent my thoughts..... that is all. I am not depressed, nor feeling sorry for myself.
I beg of you..... no more motherly advice.
Thankyou for listening.
ps....
Not even one comment about my art!
How ego deflating... lol

Once upon a time.........
Nicole was bored and painted/drew a castle.
The end.
It was the birthday of a little friend of ours,
so I painted him a rocket, to fly to the moon.

This is one of my Mum's favourite ways to cook chicken. You rub olive oil and garlic into the seasoned chicken skin and then spinkle heaps of paprika all over. Cook as per a regular roast chicken. Yum. The yellow tinged chook is organically corn fed. The children and I have stomach conditions and need to limit our intake of wheat and gluten products. The other two chooks are regular type chooks. I try to make gluten free meals every other day to give our tummies a rest. On this past Saturday we took a pleasant walk through the Mary Cairncross rainforest walk up at Maleny. It is a man made path through natural rainforest. There are board walks and oak benchs along the sign posted walk. It was so lovely and quiet. You walk through an information centre and give a donation before stepping into the magical scenery. It is one of the things I love about living in Queensland. The diversity of the land and scenery. The tropical to the desert. It took us a total of 45 minutes to do the biggest walk (there are three).

Pleased as Punch!

This is an order I completed yesterday. I was extremely pleased with myself as I have finally perfected my buttercream recipe. For any Aussie's.... that is mock cream but with a teeny weenie yellow tint due to butter in the recipe. It is called 'American Buttercream' and according to Harry chicken..... is roolly yommy (mouth full of cake). This cake feeds about 30 or so kids at a party.... sometimes more depending on who is cutting it into slices. I ran out of sugar flowers and had to hand make cream roses. I don't usually do this while the weather is still warm as they tend to droop a little and loose their definition but I took a chance. Anyway, hope you enjoy the photos, and have a brilliant Saturday. xix Nicole

Run Flea, Run!

It's absolutely amazing that I have'nt run away down the highway screaming and tearing my hair out. Harrison's 'spots' have nearly cleared up and he returns to school on Monday (I am currently jumping up and down with delight) and I will miss him terribly (cough cough). Our flea problem is nearly at an end. The inside of the house is flea and bug proof, and the outside will be done tomorrow. Which I am foaming at the mouth in anticipation as 'Jack' keeps bringing more in. I have been LISTENING to my Mum (capitols so she recognises I have finally done it lol) and are doing the following;
  1. I vacuum the floor everyday.
  2. I mop the floor everyday with phenyl.
  3. I bombed the entire house with 6 insecticide bombs.
  4. I wash all the removable linen with phenyl.
  5. I bath the dog in phenyl.
  6. I dip the local sheep in phenyl. lol

So all we have to do tomorrow is spray a phenyl mixture around the perimeter of the house and in the ENTIRE yard and spray an insecticide around the perimeter of all the rooms in the house.

Want to come help? You live 'how far' away? Thats not a problem... I know a friend who has a friend who...... Oh well, I tried.

Above is what happens when you have a family of Gecko's living in your home and you let 6 insecticide bombs off all at once. They scamper, run and hide for some fresh air.

Above is what happens when your children start to think 'Hey, my Mama's a cake decorator and I'm hungry.... Hmmmmm'. You (and the neighbours) end up with 3 dozen candy pink cupcakes. Nice one Mum!
Above is one of the four knitting books I bought for $3.00 each from spotlight. I am pretty impressed myself. This book is my favourite as it has some gorgeous 'little' tops and funky cardigans. Very Nice Nicole.... Very Nice! I also bought 3 cross stitch patterns for my Melbournite cross stitch pal and will pop them in the post on Monday. Don't sweat it "you know who you are" they were only $2.00 each. Bargain!

I can hear my sewing machine calling me.... or is it my knitting needles? Maybe it's that lump of clay over there on the shelf..... no, hang on, it's definitely my paint brushes lol. Take care xox.

Bondi and The South Pole

Bondi beach boxes as promised. They are called as such because I liked the way it sounded. There are actually none of these found at Bondi, Sydney. They are all found at Brighton, Victoria. For photographs of the original boxes go here. They measure 20 x 24cm and are painted on prepared canvas with neat 1 cm sides. They are destined for my shop which I still have'nt filled yet lol.

This is a Polar Bear requested by Isabella's (boy) friend "Jack". He and his sister Courtney live around the corner and frequent our home often. He brought over his latest library books and asked if I'd 'do some art' for him. No, they are not 'going together', they are great friends. The paper is from one of my many sketch books and drawn with pencil.

This picture below is of my lunch yesterday. It is my wonderful lemon and lime chicken with garlic rice. I have been asked for this recipe a few times now as it is just the yummiest Summertime recipe to cook on the barbecue is tastes so refreshing and zingy. I tried to imitate the Nando's style chicken as I lurve it. I could'nt find anything similar in the way of marinades... so I made my own!

Nicole's Lemon & Lime Chicken

About 4-5 chicken breasts

2 heaped teaspoons of crushed garlic

2 heaped teaspoons of chopped lemon grass

2 heaped teaspoons of chopped coriander

Rind of 1 lemon

Juice of 1 lemon

Rind of 2 limes

Juice of 2 limes

Pepper & Salt

1 chilli deseeded and chopped finely

Butterfly chicken and put into marinading dish. Put all the above ingredients over the chicken and rub into the meat very well. Leave for a minimum of 1 hour. Remember that the acid in the citrus fruits will start to cook the meat, so don't leave it over night, or the meat will be tough.

I normally rinse the chicken slightly to remove the lemon grass as it is'nt pleasant to eat uncooked. Cook on a very hot grill and be sure to char it slightly for extra flavour. Garnish the chicken with coriander and serve with sourcream and chives.

Nicole's Garlic Rice

2 cups of Jasmine rice, cooked.

50g butter

1 tablespoon crushed garlic

1 tablespoon chopped chives

Half cup of finely grated parmesan cheese

Pepper & salt

Put it all in with the rice and stir until well combined.

ENJOY!

Two really bad things I will rectify today..... I still need to send out my bar of favourite soap for the 'Little Piece Of Happiness' swap and complete my 'Hippie' swap package and get it out by end of next week. The first is going to the UK and I am getting too close for comfort to have it reach there by the end of the month. The second has the same deadline but is going to a good friend living only 45 minutes from me. I will post the soap TODAY.

Yesterday I received a phone call from Harry chickens grade 1 teacher. Harry has been off school for a couple of days now and won't be returning probably for another week. He has an illness similar to chicken pox, as I mentioned the other day, and has spots ALL over him. Anyway, Felice called me in the afternoon to confirm that she needed me to do a mural for her classroom, which would be needed for TODAY. The children are learning all about life on a farm... and farm animals. She needed a mural that was a farm scene so the children could stick their farm animals onto it. It took me about 3 hours to complete in total. It doesn't look very big in the photo but my head came up to the top of the mud puddle, and I had to stand my short self on a chair to finish it lol.

This is our cat Floyd. We believe that he is actually a mountain lion lol. As you can see... he is twice the size of a 'normal' cat. Taking that into account, you will understand why I have huge holes in my screens, from him playing Tarzan. I should mention that he still thinks he is a kitten (he is four human years) and when he playfully swipes at your leg when you walk by, it causes a trip to the emergency room (only kidding). He still loves to sit on my chest for a cuddle, which is'nt as cute as it used to be, as he now weighs a few tonne. I love him.

This is the new/old bookcase which we put in 'my room' last weekend. Here is the before and after pictures I took yesterday. The blue containers are where I took the fabric out of. I have some pretty funky pieces of fabric in there... and I have put some aside to swap with fellow bloggers. I could'nt take the photos though as I have'nt finished sorting through all my stuff yet. I have'nt let Christopher into the room yet as he won't let me near Spotlight anymore if he sees this bookcase lol. I love that I can now see most of the fabric and not have to open a gazillion boxes to find what I need. I have since found many pieces that I did'nt even know I had.

I am still really tired as Christopher rooster and I both have a virus that has us running to the littlest room frequently. Yes, I can see a pattern forming and am quite aware that drastic measures need to be taken to get our health back up to scratch before the winter sets in. We are eating lots of good food and I have jars of vitamins lined up on the kitchen benchtop. Ms*R has been giving me lots of good advice and my Mum is always guiding me (telling me off lol) in the right direction. If I don't do something now... she may come for a lengthy visit and "clean" my home. That usually means a few rubbish tip deliveries..... I'm getting scared!

I'm painting the last of the Bondi beach boxes today and will take a photo and show you later. I will also be doing some scrapbooking with the kids for their Grandparents. I think I will take a Nanna nap too before deciding to add to the list. See, I do listen to you all! xox Nic

Under Duress

I am here under duress. I have too much to do and not enough time to do it all in. My art & craft is suffering.... there has been no knitting.... and do not even start with me about the etsy site. I have been reorganising the house, room by room, and getting rid of alot of clutter. I have been seeing clients (brides etc) and getting my paperwork organised. I have a list a mile long that I need to complete by the weeks end and Harrison chicken has come down with a bug similar to chicken pox and will be off school until sometime next week. Isabella chicken is all better now and back at school after suffering through a nasty chest infection. Christopher rooster comes home tired and cranky as
